I'm currently reading Strong Towns (Charles L Marohn Jr). Did anyone else read this and feel disappointed or a bit hopeless about their own city? I'm only about 25% of the way through, but it's clear my city is on the now-not-thinking-about-later track. #yqr #urbanism #BookSky

Anyone else finding their BlueSky suddenly loaded down with new accounts with posts that are just advertising products on Amazon. Nope, not here for that. Obviously bots. Mute account. #DelugeOfAdvertising

“A fear that we heard often was, 'This policy change is going to cause havoc in our streets, there's going to be no parking, folks aren't going to be able to move around,' but that is absolutely not what we've seen."

Changes to Edmonton’s parking geography have been minimal, but the policy has paved the way for some developments with minimal parking and made it easier for homeowners and businesses to use parking s...

Hey! You know that “60 Minutes” segment that was shelved because it would make Trump look bad?

Yeah… it was aired in Canada. 🙂

Every single one of the councillors that ran on municipale inefficiencies are not talking through their amendments with city admin beforehand, creating huge time/money wastes. THEY are the inefficiencies! "efficiency vampire" councillors.

Is it sad to be happy that my councilor can't get any of his whims and wants into the budget? Not surprised he is against sidewalk clearing. He only cares about roads, #CarCulture and parking lots. #Ward4 #yqrcc

Has Bezo made the suggestion to just cut transit 100% and not provide the service at all? Like maybe we take 2026 and 2027 to wind it down? Sounds like where he is heading. /sarcasm #yqrcc #JustFundTransitAlready

I find the #yqrcc budget discussions hard to follow. Lots of numbers, lots of amendments, some grandstanding. It's frustrating that #CarCulture gets such a pass and transit is so neglected. A lot of time spent on tiny things and big stuff glazed over with a rubber stamp ready. #yqrcc

If Wed/today is your regular garbage/recycling/green bin pickup day, City of Regina has just pulled their trucks off the road due to weather. Collection rescheduled for Saturday, Dec 20. #yqr

Like, I get EDR's budget is tiny. But it's the principle of the thing. It's a transfer to the private sector. It is incapable of proving any real benefit beyond "good feels". It is absent when council needs economic insight into things like business development or events. #yqrcc

All evidence suggests EDR is next to useless. And yet council fucking defends them on the thinnest of pretexts. Meanwhile, shit like transit that has received widespread public support & is actually a demonstrable good for society is going to face huge attacks today. #yqrcc

Organizations like EDR should fall under the province. Province should be responsible for the collective growth of the province of Saskatchewan. Cities can maybe provide logistical support etc. #yqrcc

CFO: Regina is less dense, more spread out than most other cities. Per capita, we cover a large area that needs buses, snow clearing, waste collection & all other services. Cities w/ more residents per sq km, such as Calgary, find cost efficiency. We don't have that luxury.

Froh: Commercial to residential tax ratio, if it's 3 like it is in Calgary, commercial pays 3 times more than residential. It's 2.68 in Edmonton. Regina's 1.5. That's the lowest in the country. #yqrcc

Cantello: This is an adjustment year. You can go back to the original sin of Pat Fiacco. Putting in zero percent mill rate years. Inflation always exists. You have to raise mill rate as long as there is inflation. 15% represents year's of backlog. #yqrcc

Cut REAL out. We are paying for their lack of ability. Some councillors mentioned Transit investment will take approx 50 years to break even. How many years will REAL take to break even? It is a never ending pit. I'm not a numbers guy but that would bring down the mill rate. #yqrcc

Doesn't council love to contracting things out? As for Clr Bezo asking how to find efficiency, the efficiency can be found if you listen to the staff. They need things to do their job but not enough funds to do them. Find efficiency bringing down the plane from the sky. #yqrcc

So the former In-Motion building and former Saigon by Night building, both on Broad, have been been taken down. Along with the buildings at Albert and 11th, the empty lots are spreading across downtown. Soon, the Credit Foncier will go. YET, no re-building plans. Tax changes need to happen! #yqrcc
