Sales happen when player numbers drop, they literally are designed to occur AFTER your friends have grown tired of it and moved on. Intentionally deepening the sense of FOMO on the next update.

Don't forget, you don't *have* to buy it right away, they make more money if you buy it in bits here and there to try and keep up with your friends. So don't buy the full game, buy half a game now, then another 20%, then another 20%, and so on.

This is not an issue for LITERALLY ANY OTHER GAME ON THE PLATFORM.
