Our neighbors in Idaho are going to face skyrocketing monthly health care costs unless we extend the ACA tax credits.
cantwell.senate.gov
More than 70,000 King County residents receive enhanced premium tax credits to help them afford health insurance. If the credits aren’t extended, a couple earning $52K/year with an adult dependent son will see their annual health insurance cost skyrocket from $490 to $2,830.

We need to act right now. We need to say to families who are going to be threatened by this that we can work together and we have a plan.

Tony has stage-four thymic carcinoma.

With the expanded ACA tax credits, he's been able to get life-saving care.

Without them, his healthcare costs would jump & he'd have to drop his coverage altogether.

While Democrats fight for families like his, Republicans chose to shut down the government.

God forbid that these people get sick or have a condition that is really life threatening, because people don't want to come up with a solution today. It is not that hard. We can extend these tax credits. We can have affordable health insurance in the market.

As Congress debates the future of the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits, new KFF polling finds significant concern about affordability if they expire at the end of the year.

KFF graphic titled "If ACA Enhanced Premium Tax Credits Expire, Marketplace Premiums Could More Than Double for Many Enrollees. New KFF Polling Shows:"
It includes two sections of data from a KFF Health Tracking Poll (September 23-29, 2025). On the left, blue circles illustrate that 7 in 10 of those who purchase their own insurance say they could not afford their coverage if premiums doubled. On the right, green circles show that about 4 in 10 Marketplace enrollees would go without health insurance coverage if premiums doubled.

72% of Americans say they want an enhanced premium tax credit extension.
So let's do our jobs. Let's quickly act to extend the ACA tax credits.
Let's make a bipartisan effort to show the American people that we hear them.

Democrats are fighting to preserve an Obamacare tax credit. Without it, a 55-year-old couple making $85K would see their premiums more than triple to $24,535.

Health insurance premiums for a single person will more than double on average next year if the enhanced premium tax credits expire.

This will be on top of the rising prices Americans pay for household goods, gas prices, electricity, housing, and groceries.

We're very clear on our side of the aisle:

✅ We want the maximum amount of people to get health insurance.
✅ We want to drive down uncompensated care costs.
✅ We want to drive down health insurance premiums.
✅ And we want to deliver good health care for our citizens.

We already have price increases for a lot of household items. Now is not the time to put health care on the list and crush families with this extra burden. My colleagues should come to the table and say, “We agree. We need to fix this now.”

I will be fighting to restore these funds. (3/3)

Our region was awarded this Hub following an intensive national competition because we showed we had the pioneering researchers, clean energy resources, and over $5 billion in committed local investment that it would take to show that clean hydrogen can work. (2/3)
cantwell.senate.gov
These costs will be passed along in the form of higher health care premiums for all Washingtonians, no matter what type of health insurance they get. (4/4)
cantwell.senate.gov
That costs them and everyone else more. Treating a patient in the ER can be 10 times more expensive than treating a patient in a normal doctor's office. (3/4)
cantwell.senate.gov
We know that people without health care insurance wait to get care until their condition worsens to a point where they end up in the emergency room. And more people will also end up in the ER because they can't afford preventive care or regular services. (2/4)

I'm worried about the 80,000 Washingtonians who are expected to lose access to checkups and preventive care because they can no longer afford health insurance once the ACA tax credits expire. (1/4)
cantwell.senate.gov
We can figure out a way to extend these expiring credits and come up with solutions to lower these costs, and I urge my colleagues to do so as soon as possible. The American people are depending on us.

I was sent this by a Georgian this morning. 2025 premiums vs 2026 premiums for someone making $65k a year.

Republicans in Washington did this.

This is what I'm fighting to stop. This is what’s at stake in this shutdown fight.

Under the Affordable Care Act, the percentage of Americans without health insurance has been cut in half – from 15.7% in 2010 to 7.7% in 2023. It's remarkable progress towards getting everyone covered and taking uncompensated care out of the system, which saves everyone money.

Today on Morning Joe, @vinguptamd.bsky.social called out RFK Jr. for trying to refute over 100 years of history on vaccines.

RFK Jr. said he was going to be the gold standard for science, and he's giving us the bottom of the barrel.

The Finance Committee could have come up with a solution to the crisis of rising health insurance costs. They could have met about it yesterday.

Instead, they were having a hearing on cryptocurrency.

Some states are trying to hide the ball. They don't want to tell people their health insurance costs are going up.

But states are seeing astronomical cost increases for health insurance.

The report we published last week made these numbers available to the public.

Thank you @vinguptamd.bsky.social for refuting RFK Jr.'s vaccine misinformation video.
vinguptamd.bsky.social
On Monday, RFK posted a rambling video on the HHS X account showing a series of graphs and directly stating that vaccines have had minimal impact on human health and saving lives.

Today, in response, we brought our own graphs.

We will not let his dangerous nonsense go unanswered.

I believe every senator agrees that our constituents are concerned about the cost of health care. Just this morning, I heard some of my Republican colleagues also talking about health care affordability.

The difference is, Senate Democrats want to do something about it.
cantwell.senate.gov
I don't want to roll the dice on health insurance. I don't want to find out what happens when people who don't have insurance get sick anyway and go to the emergency room, or have a devastating diagnosis, just because Congress wouldn't act.

Rates are going to go up November 1. Are Americans going to pay this huge increase because Congress did not extend the subsidies that provide affordable health insurance?

This is something that Congress and the administration need to hash out now.

www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
The Seattle Times: Millions face skyrocketing health insurance costs unless Congress extends subsidies.
cantwell.senate.gov
The estimates are that 5 million Americans across the country, including 80,000 Washingtonians, will no longer be able to afford health insurance.

Why is that so important?

Because when you have uncompensated care, the costs don't just evaporate. They're paid by the rest of us.
