Cold front has pushed east of Interstate 95 and humidity is already starting to fall. You'll notice a big change by this evening.

UNDERPERFORMER

While some fast-moving showers/downpours still sweeping through area, overnight rainfall of 0.1 to .25 inches was less than predicted.

We need more but may get more late this weekend and early next week.

More to come on that at cwg.live

Steadier rain has moved east. Just a passing shower until the front finishes passing the region this morning. Looks like an underperformer locally for rain but will do more of a roundup later AM. The cooling and drying forecast: www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025...
CWG Live updates: Skies clear and winds gust after early raindrops, then turning cooler
Turning much cooler with classic fall weather arriving for several days.

Rain! Remember that?
It's developing in DC's western suburbs and will spread over the rest of the area overnight.

The dew points are too darn high! That'll be changing, though. Low-to-mid 60s is summerlike humid tomorrow morning. Upper 20s and low 30s possible by later Thursday. Dry air sets the stage for a chilly Thurs night. More at cwg.live.

Soaking rain from a coastal storm Sunday and Monday in DC? Maybe. Some of the new modeling is coming in on the juicy side but DC may be near the edge of where the more substantial rain starts and stops.

Still a low confidence forecast.

How much rain late tonight into Wednesday morning? Some -- but not a ton. Forecast model average is around 0.3-0.4 inches; areas south of DC could get a bit more.

Thick cloud deck to the east put a damper on views of 6 Oct 2025 #HarvestMoon from the nation's Capital, but I did manage to get an image of the Moon and Old Glory before the clouds eclipsed the moon.

It’s a mar-ve-lous night for a moon dance! 🎶
Facing East toward Washington DC. Image of orange sunset reflecting off glass buildings in Rosslyn, Va. The Harvest Moon rising through a quiet cloud.

Be on the lookout for the supermoon 🌝 rising in the east!

It's the first of 3 consecutive supermoons to end 2025. AKA the Harvest Moon, since it's closest full moon to the equinox.

Nice view of it from Ron Cohn/Flickr this morning.
A near full Harvest Moon this morning.

Cold front tomorrow night into Wednesday morning will have abundant moisture, especially for fall. Some rumbles, with a general half inch-plus possible. Hardest hit spots could pick up 1-1.5 inches. Details at cwg.live.
Precipitable water a percentage of normal Tuesday night. It's 200% plus from the Mid-Atlantic through New England. Juicy!

Significant coastal storm this weekend? Maybe.

Some models have a legit storm giving us rain late Sat/Sun, others keep it more out to sea. Atlantic beaches have higher chance to get hit w/ rain, wind, high surf, flooding.

This is worth watching.

So cool! Brennan Gilmore captured this photo of Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) on Saturday about 10 miles east of Charlottesville.

This comet might become visible to the naked eye later this month.

On this 80° day in D.C., it’s wild to think snow fell on this date in 1892 — the earliest on record! 🌨️

And in 1836, Loudoun County roofs were dusted white. 🏠❄️

Winter is coming! ☃️

We're giving the opening act of the weekend a 9/10... subtracting 1 because it's getting warm for October. Not much to strongly dislike about the forecast ahead, though! www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025...

Fall color increasing. Most prominent in western suburbs with general low color, per Explore Fall. If you're up for a road trip, the mountains of nearby West Virginia are ranging from moderate to peak color and it'll be a beautiful weekend! Details plus forecast update at cwg.live.
