2/ The fact that the gay relationship isn't an issue for the characters is surely positive? And the same with Dave having issues with his body but then having himself reaffirmed by someone (his wife?) and then having the confidence to go through with it should be applauded?

But wasn't that still how life was back in the 90s, especially in the North and amongst blue collar workers? Surely if they'd fully embraced body positivity and LGBTQ+ rights in the film, it wouldn't have had any semblance of reality? 1/
