This fucking pro-Bibi / anti-Trump needle you’re trying to thread isn’t a thing fuck you

Care for the non-citizen in your midst means ALL OF THEM

in 2017 and 2019 their slogan was "for the many, not the few". in 2024 it was just "Change." and it's becoming increasingly obvious why.

this is about protecting the interests of the rich at the expense of the most vulnerable. which is exactly what the tories were doing and what they previously described as "morally indefensible".

these proposed cuts aren't really about helping disabled people back into work. because if it was, they'd be focusing on more employers becoming disability confident, advocating for more remote positions, expanding the access to work scheme, and removing the time restrictions on freedom pass travel.

Some disabled folks have to be far pickier than me when they apply for jobs – and again, that's if they can work at all – because their conditions preclude them from most styles of employment.

This isn't necessarily because I'm a wheelchair user, and it would be impossible to prove even if it was. But the fact is, I'm already being much less selective about what I applied for than I should be and I'm still turning up empty-handed.

I've applied for almost 50 jobs since october last year, and I've been qualified for every last one. Some I've been vastly OVERqualified for. There have been a couple where on paper I am the literal definition of ideal candidate. And I haven't gotten a single interview.

the paltry sum of money i receive every month barely covers my essentials. i know that another job will make me worse but I've been desperately applying for things anyway because i have no real choice currently.
March 20, 2025 at 1:36 PM
and that's supposed to cover everyone? to say nothing about the state of the job market as it currently stands without the added setback of being a disabled candidate?

there are approx. 123 THOUSAND jobs advertised. if you select the filter for "disability confident employers" that number drops to just 16,000. filter again for fully remote, and you get 168. filter again for part time? EIGHT.

i saw @rachelcdailey.bsky.social talk on twitter about the number of jobs on the government's "find a job" website earlier this month, and decided to take another look. unsurprisingly, nothing has changed.

Even if we have the capacity for some work - and that's a big fucking "if", plenty of disabled people cannot ever work - the jobs available to us are utterly unsuitable.

I was still almost fired for taking too much sick leave.

Working full time made me ill. It made my disability worse. I was dragging myself out of bed and crying for most of my commute, every morning. I pushed myself past my limit so far that I had to sacrifice every other aspect of my life just to make it through the 9-5.
