Preprint alert: Here we report MMF1 - "a microbiota receptor” - through which Arabidopsis plants perceive their soil microbiome. Perception optimises root microbiome composition, immune status and ultimately leads to better growth.

Happy reading...

A TNL receptor mediates microbiome feedbacks in Arabidopsis
Plant performance depends on the soil microbiome. While microbiome feedbacks are well documented, the mechanisms by which plants perceive and mediate these feedbacks remain unclear. We established a f...

Proud mentor moment: when a star postdoc mentee (now new PI!) supervises two star undergraduate students and you just get to sit back and watch the science happen.

The Salk Institute shared the sad news that Prof. Joanne Chory passed away yesterday due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. She was one of the most influential biologists of our time.

And this is how I will remember Joanne, expertly guiding us on where to go. Joanne, we will miss you! ❤️

Overdue post, I'm excited to announce that the Haney Lab has moved to the University of Pittsburgh. UBC was a fantastic first lab home, but I am happy to be back in my hometown. Lots of opportunities to join us in a beautiful and affordable city! #PlantImmunity #Microbiome 🧪🌾🦠🧫

Love the question! There is no animal homolog, but as there is functional similarly in other innate immune pathways in plants and animals (i.e., flagellin recognition), maybe there is a functionally similar pathway in animals.

How do organisms maintain an appropriate immune response to their microbiota? Excited to share our newest paper about a plant mutant that shows autoimmunity specifically to normally beneficial microbes, suggesting organisms have mechanisms to prevent this. rdcu.be/drhtQ
