I’ve always been a cut your own kinda guy so I checked what prices are back east today, well first observation is that a lot of sellers are reportedly sold out, which.. is there a shortage? Anyway, $89.95 +tax (+$5 reservation?!?), jeesh!

Glad we cut our own 8.5 foot spruce for all of $5. 2/..

This is as embarrassing for Hegseth as it is a stain on our national character. As an SSE SME he means Site Exploitation without the Sensitive which is specific to CBRN targets. It’s more than semantics and Hegseth *should* full well know the difference. But frankly, it’s just DE without divers.

CBP sleeping on the job, pretty sure this boat abandoned (/lost) on Vancouver isle didn’t clear customs before beaching at the Elwha.

Deduct a day’s wages.

Dragged a 15’ tree a half mile uphill on a logging road while my son implored me to hurry up dad.

Saw the hood canal bridge and the cascades through a notch to the east.

I was charmed to see at least a dozen other cars returning with trees or in search there of, it was jolly.

The sailors of the Marshall Islands navigated the vast network of islands by feeling the rhythm of the waves. At one time it was believed they relied upon observation of the currents however the currents were subsequently shown to lack the necessary coherence. They actually use proprioception. 🤯

This trail has the best start. There’s no sign. You park on a shred of gravel next to the road, bust a bush and go underneath a giant bridge log then up log jam cascade before the trail is clearly defined.

It’s primitive so no blazes and climbing 1000’/‘mi the further up the less worn it is.

“suggests that safety filters rely on features concentrated in prosaic surface forms and are insufficiently anchored in representations of underlying harmful intent.”

Way to look suspicious as hell Mr. Coyote

We drove 3,000 up a steep forest road to see a lookout, quite the view as you can see 😹. It’s always worthwhile to get off the beaten path though and you can’t know what’s there without seeing for yourself.

Rather brisk up there.

An elfin saddle, a Matsutake, and a delightful ring of Fomitopsis.

Matsutake smell like red hots or atomic fireballs.

Went for a ride to see the world and ended up at the top of a logging road. This was just cut this summer and what I thought was plastic marking tape trash was in fact some orange peel fungus just growing out of the rock.

At 2,200’ ASL the Salish sea is so expansive it’s almost vertigo inducing.

An example of where Ai can be really neat: caring for our chickens I started wondering about their vocalizations. After reading a few papers on the topic I noticed the researchers often used spectrographic analysis which gave me an idea. I made some high fidelity recordings with a scarlet 2i2 and

Here’s a weird one: I’m a real sweater and the only deodorants that I’ve previously had success with were the nasty aluminum based types. This is the only natural that’s ever worked and it’s awesome. Expensive, about $18, but it lasts me for two months which I calculate is a good value.

I love this photo of Ash and our son, it captures the otherworldliness that is such candy for the imagination.

A coyote walks past the little owl buffet, where yesterday we saw the owl eat a rodent.

You look like you need to see a pocket owl eat a mouse, enjoy the owl.

From last night on the wild way.

What a puff piece. In many circles driving drunk and killing a person would be considered negligent homicide not an “unfortunate accident”.

Name and Shame: ABC news

For complicity with the White House propaganda machine. ABC is most certainly aware of the pending SCOTUS determination of the constitutionality of the tariffs. This is journalistic malpractice.
