This week, we learned about how algorithms can tailor different advertisements and news towards you. We also learned how automated journalism can make assumptions based on your interests and recent searches. How can this negatively affect users? Or is it positive? #uwj201 #309

In lecture this week we talked about the different principles of persuasion. However, we also talked about how persuasion and manipulation are different. Are there any times when you feel manipulated by the media rather than persuaded? #UWj201 #309

This week, we learned about the News Finds Me mindset. This is when people assume that if information is important enough, they'll hear about it eventually. This can lead to conspiracy theories and believing fake news. Do you ever fall victim to this mindset? #UWJ201 #309

I think it's interesting how the Boomer generation has more of an overlap in attitudes across genders. Because our society is so polarized these days, opinions across genders are extremely divided. Do you think we can reverse this change in society and become less polarized? #UWJ201 #309

On Wednesday, our guest lecturer talked about the SC Johnson campaign with Zuzu the crab. At first, I was confused about what the purpose of the little figure was. However, once I saw Zuzu at the Oscars, I realized that it would grab my attention. Do you think it can make an impact? #uwj201 #309

In lecture on Wed, we talked about cultivation in tv shows. For example, there are many shows that take place in NYC with a group of coed white friends (FRIENDS, Seinfeld, HIMYM). This has lead people alter their perception of reality. Have you ever felt this way? If so, when? #UWJ201 #309

I really enjoyed talking about political phrasing in discussion. I think it's important to note that different political phrases change the way people view certain issues and ideologies. For example, BLM and All Lives Matter are two ideologies but the ALM don't understand BLM movement. #UWJ201 #309

This week, I prepared my speech on the interview on Tim Hwang. I learned about programmatic advertising which is when digital ads are bought and sold through automated auctions. Does this concern you? How do you feel about your attention being auctioned off between ad companies? #UWJ201 #309

This week, we learned about News Deserts. I thought this topic was particularly interesting because it is when areas don't have access to local news. This can lead them to turn to social media for news which can lead to a lack of credibility and misinformation. #UWj201 #304

In lecture, I was specifically interested in learning about the Hybrid Media Campaigning Case Study. It's interesting how media has changed over time, not just how it's produced and distributed, but how the audience interacts with it (one-way TV vs interactive social media discussions). #uwj201 #304
