Totally with you. If your scene is a deathly serious battle where people are dying left and right in horrible ways, hearing a stock sound effect is the easiest way to ruin the tension. Most egregious example I can think of is the Battle of Helms Deep from The Two Towers.

Can't someone just scream?

Too much reverence can definitely be a problem, yeah. After all, is it respect of a culture or society or an obsession with their "best parts"?

As with many things, both extremes tend to be nasty, though for vastly different reasons. And when both are involved... oh good gods.

I never understood how this got so normalized. All it takes is a bare minimum of actual, detailed research to realize that Asian means more than China, Korea, and Japan, and that similarities among those three are actually from a long history of conquering parts of each other.

YES! i am also constantly bothered by this whenever asian cultures are inevitably introduced into fantasy settings. always an orientalist version where cultures are horrifically frankensteined, only the palest complexions and the skinniest bodies, there are only 3 types of personalities allowed

When it comes to Obsidian games, it's a masochism thing. A lot of their devs were former Black Isle team members, and back in the day, their RPGs were notorious for difficulty.

And Cazadors are big ol' mutated tarantula hawk wasps with ragged orange wings. Their venom is insanely deadly in-game.

Fallout definitely has a high learning curve at first in most of the entries. You get used to the difficulty after a while though! At least so long as you don't piss off the cazadors...

Just channel the scrungle! (In all seriousness though, best of luck. Messy cats are always hard to draw at the best of times...)

Actually, it was the fairly middling Escape...

Still have to test Caster's Burn more. It isn't perfect yet, but it seems off to a good start! And besides, some things just lean deadly...

I'm lime green jello and I hate to admit it.

Should we call it a dumb choice and suggest that they don't in the future if they want trust from gamers? Absolutely. These were bad decisions.

But this is bringing too many bad memories of fandom mob mentality back at this point...

The part that worries me is the number of people calling those who are taking a reasonably concerned standpoint bootlickers and panderers for not being outraged to the point of totally condemning and burning everything to do with either company.

Like, come on... we've seen this response repeatedly.

So particularly if you are new to this and seeing frequent “if you don’t like making [art] don’t be an [artist!]” and thinking “But sometimes I DON’T like it…” and Imposter Syndrome is gathering you close and whispering you’re-nothings in your ear, please push it away.
