It's probably time to give this project a full release huh?

From the league that brought you Sam Kerr, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Mary Fowler, if you want to find the future and past Matildas, let FBRef's data and this Streamlit app be your best friend!

On the tenets of NWSL roster-building and why you can extrapolate a strategy that *probably* has a good chance of working:

Averages are calculated by game-state and position, based on data from 2016-2025. All seasons/players available. There's also a table view!

new tableau drop??

This is still a little experimental, but I created a dashboard for viewing NWSL player-level g+ broken down and standardized by game-state. Resulting metric is "g+ above average per 32 mins IGS (in game-state)". Let me know what you think!

I do think ur right that ED was probably doing it at a much higher rate than the median. But today, Gen Z talk is nearly inseparable from concepts/terms popularized by tiktok. I had an entire conversation about “A talented band of mice” last week, which you wouldn’t understand if ur not on the app.

To be clear, I dont think its a bad thing, but I do think it accelerates pre-existing anti-intellectual sentiments. The speed at which content changes means that references become easily outdated, forcing us to follow along to not get left behind.

Likewise, reading books becomes counterproductive.

maybe even more than ED did. Gen Z in particular consumes an insane amount of content every day, and it is, like ED, reflected in our communication. Except instead of

"Calmly as to a night’s repose,–
Like flowers at set of sun"

we get

"It's not clocking to you that I'm standing on business"

I read a lot of letters by Emily Dickinson, and it's striking how often she quotes passages from different literary works. I think the natural question is "why don't we do that anymore", with the easy response being "bc we don't read." But I don't think that's true. I think we do read a lot...

Those programs *should*, in a perfect world, be offered to all through public ed. Almost always, however, public schools don’t have funds to hire specialists, and so these programs are reserved for private schools. It’s not that gifted ed is classist, it’s that we don’t have enough school funding.
