I’m trying to think of another movie that had the emotional power and deep catharsis of Hamnet, and coming up empty.

Hamnet is a masterpiece. Give Jessie Buckley the Oscar.

Yup. Worrying that you’ll sleep thru the alarm. Say no to early flights.
You know that thing where you have an early flight and have to get up at 4 am and now you can't sleep because you have to get up?

Yeah, that

Geese keeps popping up on “10 Best Albums” lists for 2025, and I just don’t get it.

Geese is like middling Radiohead, but if Thom Yorke were a donkey.

Just watched If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, about an exhausted mother at the breaking point.

What I don’t understand is why the Rose Byrne character, a therapist with a military officer husband, wouldn’t hire someone to help her. What about family or friends? Seems she’d have some kind of network.

At the Disney Hall, we were treated to a delightful orchestral version of Duke Ellington’s interpretation of “The Nutcracker.” Such fun to hear jazz played with a full orchestra.

Does The Jesus and Mary Chain count as Christmas music?

(Their seminal album Psycho Candy was released in 1985, but my fav record is Damage and Joy from 2022. Love that a band is doing their best work IMHO 37 years after their first album. I could listen to the track “Los Feliz” on endless loop.)

Fav movies of the year (so far), have all been in the horror genre:

Weapons
Sinners
28 Years Later

Oh, and One Battle After Another
(a different brand of horror).

Trevor Noah has a stand-up bit about how traffic lights and pedestrian walk signals in South Africa are more suggestion than law.

After two weeks in Cape Town, can verify.

Finally got around to seeing the new Downton Abbey movie on the 16-hour flight from Capetown to New York.

Must admit to crying at the end when Lady Sybil came on.

Certainly not waiting for.
And also, why is "thinking Pluribus is putting one over on its viewers" so enraging?
I feel like I'm getting a lot of posts from people who majored in film studies or visual arts and are freaking out at the one guy in class who says that maybe Godard wasn't that great.
Why is Tom being singled out as someone who is not allowed to discuss media and content?

Intrusive and menacing police state tactics.
WOW. @haleaziz.bsky.social with a new scoop: ICE now gets a running list of every person who is going to be taking a domestic flight inside the United States from the TSA and runs it through their database looking for targets. This explains the Babson College student's arrest.

And restore Jackie Kennedy’s Rose Garden.
I will repeat this every single day for the next three years: Any Democrat running for president in 2028 must pledge to immediately tear down/bulldoze/demolish Trump’s ballroom and fully restore the East Wing and any other piece of the People’s House Trump has or will destroy.

A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."

Next up: Hell freezes over.
Q: Just days ago you referred to Trump as a 'despot.' Will you retract?

MAMDANI: We're both very clear on our positions & what I really appreciate about the president is our meeting focused not on places of disagreement but shared purpose we have

Is that a bruise on the side of her face? That she’s trying to cover up with sunglasses in the other shots?
Maybe Melania is advising her on renegotiating her prenup?
