... aw man, I genuinely haven't learned it though lmao
catholickungfu.bsky.social
me: ohhhh that's what the hell this 'light of agent intellect' thing is for in Thomas Aquinas
catholickungfu.bsky.social
Look. Peer pressure and communal norms can be extremely good. Communities don't function without them.

"My certitude [of knowledge] ... is simply irrational, unless science is not the sole criterion of certitude. ... The alternative criterion [of certain knowledge] is the mind itself, 'far higher, wider, more certain, subtler than logical inference.'"

"When you grow up, Clark, you're going to be the most powerful being in the world. You'll have the capacity to do nearly anything.... and it will be very, very tempting to impose your will on people even when they're not in imminent danger."

tfw your one true love is a super space horse cursed man (best thing Tom King did with her, imho, but in the story it's reduced to a footnote, which is a crime)

The last issue starred the pets, which was very stupid, but this is kind of adorable. So FINE. All the pets.

Anyway this is Kara's squad right now: new psychic girl whose name I didn't learn, Kryptonian girl whose name I refuse to learn, Lena Luthor, Krypto the super dog, and Streaky the super cat

This art is great. So I just wanted to include it. Probably the most interesting thing about Kara is that her mind is this dark fantasyland but she's a perfect super-person on the outside, and it's nice to see it synthesized a bit / dealt with in this issue.

Here we get Kara remembering that time in the 1980s during Infinite Crisis when she was killed and remained dead for decades (in publishing time). Like she's aware of the resets. It's just bananas. And I love it.
RIP Supergirl.
catholickungfu.bsky.social
Superwoman of Tomorrow story, Kara spends a long time watching Argo (her home city) die before leaving for Earth. But here we get a reference to the good old "leave you to an orphanage" subplot.
Thanks, Superman.

SUPERGIRL update.

What's fun and insane about DC continuity is you can erase stuff but also gesture toward the stuff you erased. So in today's issue we get a reference to Comet, Supergirl's dead boyfriend / cursed horse (RIP legend).
Comet: RIP horse-cursed man.

I forgot somebody’s mentioned interdict. lol
catholickungfu.bsky.social
Lots of lame silence and timid efforts. Which is typical but still: not great.
catholickungfu.bsky.social
Sure. We were chatting about bishops though.

What online Catholics never seem to finally fucking learn about Rome is that the true power move a lot of times is to just ignore people who are fighting you about stuff. They want Rome to directly respond to all the tiny things that bother them, and just them, and it never has.
catholickungfu.bsky.social
Yeah… I mean, it’s not an accurate 10,000 feet because Trump got a huge chunk of the Catholic vote, inasmuch as that’s a bloc at all.
catholickungfu.bsky.social
Bridget all this coordination kills my wild theorizing.

The German bishops are like my ecclesial politics Netflix channel. “We will bless these married gay people and we dare the pope to fight us in the parking lot about it.” And I’m like “man I don’t know about the staggered episode drops system but oooooh Reddit must be going crazy right now.”
lefaucheux.bsky.social
Also I think the US bishops could do better than they have been, but I can think of numerous European bishops conferences that have been much more brazen in bucking Rome.
catholickungfu.bsky.social
I was reading about this “no backpay” thing and thinking “how is this strategic? you guys just come off as complete assholes.”

Yeah thanks for chatting honestly! It’s nice to have a good exchange online these days.

I’ve been horribly and typically Latin in that I haven’t paid any attention to that.

(rolling up my sleeves) I’ve seen Conclave, I know how Catholic politics works. Now, let’s speculate wildly.
