People have forgotten rubella altogether, I think. The effects are so awful the March of Dimes people picked it as the next vaccine target for their fundraising when the polio vaccines were available. Now it’s invisible.

paper I'm reading involves a case study of someone whose ovaries were apparently damaged by her mother getting mumps two weeks before she was born. how exciting.

vaccinate your children, darnit. and yourself if necessary.

TIL that while the symptoms are less obvious (one tends to notice one's testicles swelling), mumps can also cause inflammation of the ovaries leading to future infertility.
also it's just something you don't want to put your child through, you know?

put it in smoothies?
if it's ground into meal you can make a quick not-entirely-unlike-bread in the microwave by stirring them into eggs with some baking powder.
also flax meal soaked in water can be substituted for eggs in some baked goods.

also I just realized that the joke is kind of literally true here: at least in GBR, you don't chose skeleton, skeleton chooses you. :)

"yeah, we failed to stop the new bridge from being constructed in a statewide referendum, but getting Trump to post about it might work" is a hell of a thought process.

yeah - for bobsled, the US will recruit from (American) football, because they're a good combination of 'large' and 'fast'. :) I saw someone saying that luge is actually the hardest sliding sport to get into on that basis because there's no 'running' component.

I love the artistry on the helmets!

and I suppose you have a better view of the track than you do in luge?
