Which is HILARIOUS because Feanor asked Galadriel for her hair back in Valinor and she told him to go pound sand. (Gal also refused to have any truck with Sauron in his “Gift-giver” form.)

Gimli, however, passed the Galadriel sniff test.
After a feast on the grass, Galadriel gives gifts to the Company.

Aragorn—a sheath for Andúril, and a green Elf-stone.
Boromir—a belt of gold.
Merry and Pippin—silver belts.
Legolas—a bow.
Sam—a box.
Frodo—a phial of light.

Gimli names a strand of her hair. He receives three.

Also note the way that the burden is always, always placed upon the left; the right must be catered to, the center must be appealed to, the left? Suck it up, accept whatever is offered, perform the labor of care and capitulation and compromise.

A familiar dynamic.
One of the things language like this does is conveys the way that leftism is seen as feminized in america. Leftists are called “hysterical,” told we “throw tantrums,” and “are shrill and unreasonable.”

This is the language of cultural misogyny, used to denigrate and silence women.
This is—ironically enough—what I am talking about.

RW voters who demand their bigotries be accommodated are never "radical" or "throwing a tantrum." No—those are "swing voters" to pursue, even as they fail to show up time & again. The goal here isn't a bigger tent, but to prevent movement leftward.

We have a pretty good vaccine for measles, and if you need it you should get it.

But also? Measles is airborne. That's part of why it's so infectious.

Adequate ventilation and air treatment (filtration, maybe UVC) in schools would be really, really helpful around now.

(5/11) Walmart, Whole Foods, and Kohls are switching to electronic shelf labels that can display dynamic prices. Kroger deployed them with Microsoft AI—a setup a 2024 Senate inquiry warned could enable “surge pricing” via facial recognition. (Kroger claims it will only lower prices.)

Folks like to talk about how Norman Rockwell was more liberal than we remember, but a big part of that is that he represented a broad American consensus that was more liberal than we remember.

The idea that Americans haven't died—in huge numbers—specifically to defend multiculturalism is horseshit.

So I carved off a lean chunk of the steak before cooking it,

And made sure to set it on the edge of my plate, after I was done.

And then to look the other way. To let her steal it.

I got her her favorite thing, for her birthday -

Crime.

The thing about Casablanca being the greatest film of all time is people don't believe you and then they watch it
You ever stop and think about CASABLANCA? You ever stop and think about "Welcome back to the fight, this time, I know our side will win?" You ever think about a bar full of people defiantly singing La Marseillaise, played by a soundstage full of Jewish refugees? You ever think about CASABLANCA??????

mumps used to be the leading cause of testicular malfunction.

get your children vaccinated.
Measles is a bellwether. Because it’s the most contagious vaccine-preventable disease, when vaccination rates drop, it’s the first to start spreading.

Now we’ve got mumps rolling up.

Expect more.

This is just the beginning of RFK Jr.’s successful infectious disease reintroduction plan.

People have forgotten rubella altogether, I think. The effects are so awful the March of Dimes people picked it as the next vaccine target for their fundraising when the polio vaccines were available. Now it’s invisible.
