There’s some good in this world and it’s worth fighting for. Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.

It’s Black Maternal Health Week, & guess what? Abortion bans hitting Black communities the hardest isn't a coincidence—it's by design. Black birthing people face the highest maternal mortality AND the most barriers to abortion care. Fighting for abortion access IS fighting for Black maternal health

I spent a decade studying kids' help-seeking. So, I can tell you that if a child asks their teacher to call them something other than what's on file, it's because that child fundamentally trusts that teacher. And, I'm appalled that a teacher would be fired for inspiring that kind of trust.

This is why those that have tenure or are otherwise in a relatively safe position should be using their influence to not only protect their coworkers that are at risk, but also stand up for what's right and protect their students.

Moving a class online is simple and likely set up as an option, especially after covid. Forbidding professors from choosing to move a class online is siding with facism.
This is absolutely disgraceful. The university should be doing everything they can to help students learn in a safe environment.
Columbia's Provost evidently sent this message to faculty forbidding them from moving classes offline or canceling them amid ICE activity on campus.

This is a good read, but I do question "non-idealogical" when we are seeing common threads of religion and white supremacy.

NEW: The NIH is canceling grants for research about trans people, saying that work "based on gender identity is often unscientific." At least a half-dozen grants have been canceled, according to letters I reviewed. "It hurts my heart," one scientist told me.

The NIH Is Canceling Grants for Research About Trans People
At least a half-dozen research grants were terminated last week by the NIH, which said that “programs based on gender identity are often unscientific.”

This is absolutely vile. The US would effectively become a mercenary state.

US creates unstable governments causing mass unrest, riots, and war. Then force countries to pay exorbitant fees for protection. Rinse and repeat. Is this not the strategy of gangs? "Protection money"?
DOOCY: Are you considering changes to NATO where if a country gets attacked but isn't paying enough dues, the US doesn't defend them?

TRUMP: Well I've said that to them. I said, 'If you're not gonna pay, we're not gonna defend.'

This is exactly the response Canada should be taking to the ridiculous tariffs. Hopefully these companies will put pressure on the US administration to end the tax war.

This war will only hurt those struggling the most.

If you care about fanfiction or fanart the SCREEN ACT will 100% apply to you. AO3 would be gutted (or we see americans unable to access it)
This exact bill has died in the Senate committee before, and it's in the committee now!

Here's a list of senators on the committee and their office phone numbers. Names in bold are up for re-election. PLEASE call your senators and tell them to vote NO on the SCREEN ACT. See alt text for numbers.

I was told yesterday there will be no tariffs on a Ford because they are assembled in Dearborn. Don’t be fooled people. The BBC diagram below shows how just one engine component, assembled within the engine in the US, actually crosses 25% tariff lines twice. Prices will go up folks.

This is a blatant violation of the 1st Amendment but a lot of cowards in academia will use this as an excuse to crack down on campus protest.

Under fascism, no one is safe.

Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc.

Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations.

Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.
