I know BC NDs can prescribe a few types of things, but I don’t know if that’s only with extra accreditation. I haven’t been to an Ontario ND in years so I haven’t kept up. But I did just find this explanation from one ON ND:

Interesting. Canadian NDs can prescribe some medications. In some places, they can prescribe antibiotics, hormones, and birth control. But I’m not sure how many do… My experience is limited.

Thanks so much for writing all this out. I’ve seen a couple of NDs who were shockingly incompetent (ex. didn’t know about the left liver lobe) or simplistic so I’m grateful to hear of your experience! Perhaps I had back luck or the Canadian education is different.

In the midst of the physical & existential suffering that is chronic illness, any comforts to be found are survival. Not extras.
