A Steam review: "So I just finished The Haunting of Joni Evers, and I’ve gotta say… I loved it. Not in a “wow, that was scary” way, but in a “this understands something about me” kind of way. It’s not really horror in the usual sense. There’s no big bad, no monsters popping out. It’s about trauma, and how it lingers in ways people don’t always see. That quiet, personal kind of haunting.

Without spoiling anything, Joni’s story felt oddly familiar. That sense of carrying too much, the isolation, the emotional weight of being the one who always has to be “okay” when everything else is falling apart… yeah. Been there. Still kinda there, to be honest. Watching her navigate that house, piece together fragments of memory, it was like watching a version of myself who finally gets a moment to heal.

Huge thank you to its_kris_bro for getting me this. I probably wouldn’t have found it without her, and I’m so glad I did <3

If you’re looking for something short, emotional, and quietly powerful, this is it. It sticks with you, in that soft aching way, quite wholesome too!"

Absolutely incredible.” The full shown review reads "I have a feeling that this review will get a big long-winded and personal, so here is a TL;DR for those without a lot of time: This is a best-in-class narrative adventure game. If you like things like Gone Home, Firewatch, The Suicide of Rachel Foster, Titan Station, or any of those kinds of games, you should have an amazing time with this one. It is about 3.5 hours long and an absolute pleasure to play in one shot.

Now for the more long-winded, personal tirade. This review will contain spoilers.

The idea of writing about that game is a bit intimidating to me. It is a perfect 10/10 experience for me in so many ways. As far as being a walking simulator, it is best in class. They give you the option of choosing how much guidance you would like to receive. Want to have an objective reminder to tell you where to go next? Or do you want to figure it out for yourself? You get to decide. I loved that bit of flexibility.

Joni herself is an outstanding narrator. She is believable and human and her internal monologue is realistic and does not feel like a put on for the sake of the game. The environment of her big, haunted house is intimidatingly large at first, but you quickly come to learn the layout and it becomes far more easy to wrap your head around where everything is."
