Milky Way and Comet over Bishop, from Sierra View Vista Point, Inyo County, CA Shortly after sunset, on a moonless night, the Milky Way emerged above the Sierra Nevada in the darkening sky. It was such an otherworldly experience to stand alone, seemingly at the edge of the earth to watch the sun , then the sliver of a moon dip below the horizon. As darkness set in, I got an appreciation of what it is like under truly dark skies. Even with a hint of light on the horizon, and lights of Bishop, the sky was an uncomfortable dark. At almost 10,000 feet, it got cold rapidly… thank goodness for a wool beanie and warm jacket. I’m definitely going to do this a few more times! Nikon Z8; Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-24 f/2.8 at 14mm and f/2.8; ISO 3200, 3 sec exposure; raw processing in Capture One Pro 16.7; 30 frames stacked in starry landscape stacker (30 light; 30 Dark; and 30 flat) Final processing in PS.
