🐋 Ch 100 "He was a darkly-tanned, burly, good-natured, fine-looking man, of sixty or thereabouts, dressed in a spacious roundabout, that hung round him in festoons of blue pilot-cloth..."

🐋 Ch 77, "I know not with what fine and costly material the Heidelburgh Tun was coated within, but in superlative richness that coating could not possibly have compared with the silken pearl-colored membrane, like the lining of a fine *pelisse*, forming the inner surface of the Sperm Whale's case"

🐋 Ch 75 "...at a broad view, the Right Whale's head bears a rather inelegant resemblance to a gigantic galliot-toed shoe."

Power Moby Dick annotation claims this is, simply, a "square-toed" shoe, BUT in an image search these brogue designs came up and imho they look waaay more like whales.

A style of tailcoat with a long back split, sometimes referred to as a "swallowtail"

Chapter 6: "Here comes another [green Vermonter(?)] with a sou'-wester and a bombazine cloak."

End of chapter 4: "...[Queequeg] proudly marched out of the room, wrapped up in his great pilot monkey jacket, and sporting his harpoon like a marshal's baton."

I was in New York for the holiday and landed this at the Strand near the East Village. Never mind the discounted price (and the ✨sticker✨)—check the MARGINS on this bad boy 💕

What to do w/r/t the influential work of creeps? Important question. In cinema: happy to see a notice this summer in the Musée Carnavalet's exhibition of Agnès Varda's photographs, acknowledging both her early collaborations with Gérard Depardieu & his very recent conviction for sexual assault.
