Said it before, and I’ll say it again, but for people like me, this would be transformative - it would stabilise our incomes, and allow us to plough more time into creative work and less into stuff anyone could be doing.

AND it’s a net economic benefit to the country.

as I've been saying!
and those amount to a LOT of asides!!
All the reports showing it either decreases productivity or increases workload or both aside, ethics of incorporating The Great Plagiarist Bot into a university curriculum aside, destroying the planet aside: students do not know enough about anything to even use genAI for its theoretical potential.

Next time somebody tries to get me to justify the existence of the humanities, I’ll just point out how for the past two Super Bowls we’ve all jumped online and engaged in collective semiotics and hermeneutics of the half-time show as text.

The Last Duel (2021) nailed this dynamic exactly. The rapist went into the duel entirely convinced he was blameless (and his opponent was more keen on defending himself than the actual victim).
People who defend others accused of having done horrible things on the basis of „but he‘s been my colleague for so many years and does such great work and was nice to my dog once“ - yeah most rapists and abusers just live among us and don‘t even think they are in the wrong.

Quilicura, Chile, one of the communities I wrote about in EMPIRE OF AI, has launched a brilliant initiative to inspire more responsible AI prompting. Today, don't use AI; ask the townspeople instead: quili.ai. So heartened to see this creative act of resistance.

How can a paper that was never written end up with 60+ citations in multiple journals and books with several different author and co-author credits? Maybe it started with human error/malpractice, but AI is clearly reproducing and amplifying the zombie infection.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.
