I am fascinated by the Unfilmable Book designation.

We don’t say Unalbumable Book or Unpaintable Pop Single or Unstageable Sculpture.

The book-to-film pipeline was powerful from the dawn of film but so were plays, short stories, magazine pieces, paintings-to-film

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a monster.
You can only pick one. I’m sorry.

Jane Austen or Mary Shelley

I haven't seen an adaptation studies #starterpack doing the rounds, so thought I'd create it myself! One for you if you're interested in #adaptation in a cultural context in all of its wonderfully various forms. Let me know in the replies if you'd like to be added.

If you could bring an author forward in time to watch or otherwise engage with an adaptation of their work, who and what would it be?

I’d like to show Austen Clueless, Dickens Muppet Christmas Carol, and Shakespeare 10 Things I Hate About You!
do you think if you took Victor Hugo forward in time to see a stage musical adaptation of Les Mis he'd be like "this shit's fire"
