Can I get a fact check on Trump personally redesigning a consignment of ships deployed with the coastguard?
Trump claims he personally redesigned Coast Guard ships because he’s a “looks” person

Famously 'the Labour Party' is 450,000 hungry children in a trenchcoat.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

The "don't have an extra kid if you can't afford it" brigade get awfully upset when you suggest they don't stay in their £2m house if they can't afford it, don't they?

Donald Trump is suing us for editing a speech in a way that he feels misrepresents him, so we have to edit this other guy’s speech to misrepresent him.

An absolute wealth of people to block in the replies to this (good) post.
yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights

I’m getting paid four times more for an incredibly quick and pleasant recording session than I estimated I would be. Not often that happens!

I’m not sure it’ll reach the right ears or make sense to them if it does, but Reform aren’t serious politicians.

John Coltrane, for obvious and well deserved reasons, is so often talked about in terms of his innovations within harmony, but it occurred to me recently that he has *such* a distinctive approach to phrasing. This kind of sprightly quite narrowly placed swing.

Update: just heard on the guardian politics podcast that ‘smörgåsbord is probably the wrong word cause it’s not very Christmassy’ which begs the question WHAT DO BRITISH PEOPLE THINK THIS WORD MEANS???
Everyone in British political punditry has decided to use the word smörgåsbord a lot lately and, given that it’s a word that includes two vowels that don’t exist in the English language, I find it a poor choice.

Really beating those racism allegations.
Nigel Farage asked about Reform MS Laura Anne Jones (who the Senedd Commissioner found had used a racist term in a staff WhatsApp chat in August 2023 while discussing TikTok writing: “No chinky spies for me.”)
"Well, she used a word that colloquially, probably was meant in a nice way 20 years ago."

Ah, ok, I looked this person up and they’re a tech entrepreneur who has received $20m in investment capital from Mark Andreessen. Fuck that.
Every time one of these cursed startups comes along, someone is there to make the economic/class argument, as if we haven’t seen a thousand times that the business model is to neutralise the competition, render people reliant on their product then hike prices.
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.
