Yes! But I’ll bet you that the person who read this document was the first. There must be so many billions of words out there right now that nobody will ever read.

Fascinating how Flat Earth News, a book that should’ve aged quite badly given the pace of technology, actually feels like it’s become MORE relevant.

Obviously the rot set in long before the internet - with Murdoch, the strangling off of traditional fleet st, and the withering of the local press - but it feels like a true standard is so massively necessary again, in a way it has been in the past.

I really think we need to finally apply the same rigour to source checking to the internet that we once did to anything that was printed in a paper. It’s the only way we can possibly contend with the direction in which things are moving.

We’ve gone so far down that road now that we’re not only dealing with unreliable information, but totally imagined information - we’re not only relying upon things that haven’t been properly checked but things *no human has ever read*, which sit in categories that authorise them as reliable sources.

In my old age, I’ve become intolerant of people dismissing the greatness of the Godfather as a cliche. It’s boring in the same way as saying you don’t like the Beatles. Well done on missing out I guess.

She’s definitely not rich after buying all those roses and putting them in her toilet.

Congratulations! But yeah, I think the sympathy to that sort of thing has broadened a lot as people have found the drawbacks in their own time.

I need to grab a DVD of Akira with English subs. I’m so fed up of feeling like watching it on a whim and having no way of doing so. It’s weird that such a fundamentally important film is so inaccessible.

Hey, I’m not here to yuck anybody’s yum.

About three hundred quid’s worth of longstem roses, then £4.99 on the wine.
