So, I’m kind of tentatively branching out into podcast production, so here’s my pitch -

Obviously there are too many podcasts in the world, but as someone who listens to a lot of them, my great issue is that - even among some of the prominent ones - the production values often aren’t very high.

(NB, of course my knowledge of any of this all comes from dogged, high quality journalism, but there is all too little of it.)

I think that’s what’s most jarring about all this - I’m sure people are pretty horrified, but at an institutional level, democracy got given up without a shred of resistance.
petefrasermusic.bsky.social
Sure, there’s the odd investigative thing into crypto rug pull scams and so on, but there is simply no expectation and apparently very little institutional demand that the president should obey the law.

An elegant demonstration of how America’s politics has changed over the last decade is to compare the large amount of journalism there was about whether Trump would divest his interests during his first term compared with the total lack of the same now.
petefrasermusic.bsky.social
What with everything else going on, I suppose people could be forgiven for missing the absolutely staggering scale of conflicts of interest in Republican politics right now, not to mention the now totally routine violations of the emoluments clause.

Badenoch: "While Britain was redefining what a woman is, China built five nuclear reactors."

A perfect summary of conservative idiocy. Glorifying authoritarian post-communism for its efficiency while vilifying democracy for seeking nuance and respect.

It is the Right who hate their own countries.

That does rather beg the question of why he wrote a column in a national newspaper about leaving one party to join another.

Every time I see this guy pop up on the feed he’s praising some fake opinion to justify racism.

No, it's not. It's all a lie. The blunt truth is across the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them.

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.

You know who doesn't integrate? People like Robert Jenrick. You think he works out at the local leisure centre? Goes to the Tuesday night pub quiz? You think his golf club lets anyone play? Or his private members' clubs let anyone in? He puts the ick in prick

I can’t think of any other explanation.

I’m guessing they haven’t yet done whatever it is they do to their servers to stop them crashing on announcement days.

More coherent messaging from the dog, tbh.

No problem! Great records, both. Tons of personality.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Probably one of the Tengholm produced records I reckon (that’s their style).

Maybe either this…

I’m guessing the fact the PRS payment figures are a day later than usual is down to mine being so high, right? Right?
petefrasermusic.bsky.social
I’d be interesting to see some real evidence for it, but it definitely *feels* like the anti-education crusade on the right has really reached the stage where we’re beginning to see the results of it. You got what you wanted, Michael Gove.

I do find it quite funny that, at the same time as the leader of the Tory party is claiming that taking a degree in English is a waste of time, so many examples of the fact Tories can’t spell for shit have come to the fore.
petefrasermusic.bsky.social
Who is this even for any more? What does ‘Putin’s Communists’ mean? Why can’t they spell Principles?

I'm never actually going to need to write another comment piece again am I?

The guitar thing is further along too I think, just cause SO many bloody people play the guitar, so the whole YouTube guitar education scene got on its feet quite early on.

That guy’s been at it for decades right? I remember selling his book at my parents’ music shop when I was in my 20s.

Also, even among those good teachers, there seems to be less of an exclusive focus on shredding now, especially among the Open Studio teachers whose videos I genuinely enjoy watching.
petefrasermusic.bsky.social
I basically think things have got a lot better on that front. A lot of the snake oil ppl who made promises of getting good without working have fallen away to be replaced by actual good music educators who have thought deeply about the best way to communicate useful information to a large audience.
