As the only state agency to exclusively focus on the needs and concerns of women and girls of all ages and backgrounds, the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls holds a noteworthy place in the history of California.
California is home to nearly 150,000 women veterans which is about 11 percent of the veteran population. The Summit covered critical veteran priorities and strategies to ensure California’s veterans are supported and protected.

The new laws include strengthening pay equity, transparency across state boards and commissions, emergency diaper and wipe distribution programs, and more. The laws help protect and advance the well-being of women and girls across our state.

At the current pace, Latinas won’t reach pay equity with White men until 2160 for full-time, year-round workers—and not until 2178 for all Latinas with earnings.

According to the KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), nearly 40% of our population between the ages of 18 and 64 identifies as Latino women. From STEAM to the arts and entertainment, as well as in sports and politics, Latinas are making significant strides as leaders for California’s future.

We learned more about the candidates and their future plans for California. We had a great time connecting with the APAPA Intern Planning Committee members who did a great job organizing this event.
