The Anglican tradition, as I have received it: "the absolute priority of the Bible, a catholic loyalty to the sacraments, and a habit of cultural sensitivity and intellectual flexibility." ⚓

A young man stopped me after attending his first AA Meeting here at Messiah, asking if I hear confession. Raised in the Church, he's lived in the far off country squandering all he had. He wanted to turn back to Jesus. As a priest, I am thankful for our Prayer Book liturgy ⚓️

"We have turned the holy Scriptures into all languages, and they will scarce allow them to be extant in any tongue. We invite the people to read and hear the word of God; they drive them away from it. We desire the cause in controversy should be understood by all ; but they fly from judgment.

From the Prayer Book Society of Canada: Today in the calendar we remember William Tyndale, Translator of the Scriptures into English and Martyr. We especially remember in prayer those ministries that bear his name ⚓

Reveal to us your saving word, O God, that like your servant William Tyndale we might hear its call to repentance and new life. Plant in our hearts that same consuming passion to bring the scriptures to all people in their native tongue, and the strength to endure amidst all obstacles...⚓

Local NFL team played in London, game began at 8:30am local time. Can't say enough how much I dislike the NFL, aka the National Extortion League--just ask St. Louis or San Diego--competes against Church worship services! Just calling this idol out for what it is. For this and other hot takes...⚓

Blessed Michaelmas: THERE was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil. ⚓️

Grateful to be able to attend RADVO Conference at Incarnation Dallas. When I first attended RADVO I was the only one from Minnesota. Today there will be five from Messiah, St. Paul, plus two others from our Diocese. Be great to connect with anyone else who might be attending. ⚓

From the Prayer Book Society of Canada: "Today in the BCP calendar, we commemorate the life and witness of Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop and Scholar (1555-1626). We especially remember in prayer those ministries that bear his name".

It's a good morning, privileged to share in the administration of Holy Baptism: O MERCIFUL God, grant that all sinful desires may die in this Child, and that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow in her. Amen ⚓

These Autumn Ember Days take on a certain import; our parish has two Postulants testing their call at other congregations through to Pentecost ⚓

I'm at the stage of life, where I'm reminded of Jesus, or the Sea, or a Leonard Cohen song, or all three at once.

"And Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water..."

Because I love you and care for your soul's eternal welfare, I'm going to go ahead and share this excerpt from a Holy Cross Day sermon by the one and only Katherine Sonderegger, just published in the latest VTS Journal. ⚓

We glory in your cross, O Lord,
and praise and glorify your holy resurrection;
for by virtue of your cross,
joy has come to the whole world.

A Prayer For Being Virtuous on Social Media:

O Lord, make me quick to listen, slow to post, and even slower to post in anger, so that my tongue might not become a deadly poison to others. I pray this in the name of the God to whom I shall give an account for all my words. Amen.

What friends do: Operation Yellow Ribbon.

My hometown airport in Halifax, like other Atlantic Canadian airports as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon, took in as many inbound US flights as possible on 9/11.

I am saddened by posts and comments saying they feel no empathy for the murder of Charlie Kirk. It is especially grievous to see these comments coming from clergy. One may decry his politics, but to withhold empathy denies that we are created in the Imago Dei. ⚓
