Sadly Starmer will go down in history as the leader of a one term Govt who had a massive majority but for some unfathomable reason chose to do anything and everything to alienate its supporters …

And it’s so bl**dy frustrating 🤬

With all due respect, if you guys have any hope of things turning around over there, it needs to start with acknowledging where things are. You’re not on the slide to authoritarianism, you are living under an authoritarian, fascist, tyrannical government. Things can still get worse but you are there

This. They keep chasing votes they’ll never win because they’ll never be quite callous enough for what these people want, and they take votes like mine for granted

I can’t think of any better way to illustrate how a lot of these people do not actually believe immigration as a whole is bad, or even that it’s vital to follow the correct processes - if he had an issue he wouldn’t have married her. It ALL comes down to where they’re from and skin colour

I’m in Oxford too. My son is home from school today sick with what appears to be heat exhaustion after running around, as small kids are wont to do, too much at breaktime yesterday. It’s hard to find any real escape from the heat when the house is desperately clinging onto it

I know they’ve been paying to advertise and push their agenda online to gain votes. But this still makes me so ashamed as a Brit. I boycotted this year and I’m disgusted they were allowed to compete

Israel was also found to be spending significant amounts of money advertising to gain votes last year so you can bet they’re doing the same this year

This makes a pretty compelling case imo

… another vote gives all on the RW a free pass to whip up fury and indignation and take us straight back out again. That is what I’m saying the EU will steer clear of. I want to rejoin every bit as much as you do. We just disagree on how to go about it
May 8, 2025 at 10:53 AM
You’re misunderstanding me. It’s not just about how it’s reported, it’s about how people are being manipulated by media and social media to fervently believe in things that go against their interests. Currently the population is pro rejoining in polls but it hasn’t been tested. Rejoining without…

They could hold another referendum, I’d fully support that. But in the social media era people can be convinced to believe anything. Pushing ahead without a nod from the public would be political suicide. Right-wingers would be whipped up into a rabid fury, like how they were persuaded to vote leave
May 8, 2025 at 9:44 AM
Starmer was a vocal remain supporter though. I think he knows exactly what damage it’s done but is being misled into thinking his oath to success is purely via courting the right wing vote. I am with you in spirit and fervently wish we’d rejoin, but the RW media would have a field day and kibosh it
May 8, 2025 at 9:43 AM
No one’s currently staking anything though because no one’s currently proposing rejoining, and no party would dare do that without assurance the public were behind them. I respect your views and really wish I could agree with you on this, but I think it’s wishful thinking *at this time*
May 8, 2025 at 9:41 AM
It’s just logical though, isn’t it? We’ve messed them around horrifically and our media/politics are dominated by right-wing voices who shriek that even moving minutely closer to the EU is a betrayal. Why on earth would they want to take us back without assurances we’d moved past that?
May 8, 2025 at 9:16 AM
I agree that trying to out-Reform Reform is both hideous and counter-productive, gaining none of their votes and losing those of lefties. But the EU won’t take us back until there’s a clear mandate from the population - they wouldn’t risk another gov coming along and reversing it

Why are people still trusting laws to stop him though? Nothing in his behaviour suggests he has any respect of the law, and he’s discrediting the judges who would hold him to account. And his base LOVES it
