Thanks to the @qvarnstromlab.bsky.social and @elinvidevall.bsky.social I had the great experience of participating in the fieldwork on Öland where we collected data from pied and collared flycatchers for the flycatcher project at Uppsala university! 🐦🐣

We will look for a postdoc after the summer to start a new project on transmission of microbiota and antimicrobial resistance in lake flies. 🦠🧬🦟

It primarily involves experiments in the lab (transmission between predator-prey, vertical, species) and metagenomic sequencing to find AMR genes.

Got to meet Suki the wolverine female at Vildriket, Järvsö. Have lots of samples from her and her boyfriend Sid, but he was too comfortable sleeping in the sun to come out ☀️

Last month was filled with exciting events! I attended and presented a poster at the Oikos meeting Sweden at the Natural History museum in Stockholm. I also helped organized our internal conference at EBC, where I also presented a talk 😄🦠🐴

Gabriel presented a poster about the effects of temperature and diet on the gut #microbiome of Natterjack toad tadpoles! 🐸🌡️🥦🦠

At this early stage, he has only research plans, but results are coming soon! 🧬

At 'Revolution' symposium today: Prof. Bengt Hansson went in depth on sex chromosome evolution in birds, very intriguing patterns of fussions & reduced recombination! 😮

This morning at our 'Revolution' symposium: we started with a fascinating talk by Prof. Helena Westerdahl on MHC diversity in songbirds at diff. levels: genomic organization, expression and antigen presentation 🛡️🧬

Talks with diverse topics and study systems followed, many from MSc students! 💪

What an amazing two weeks it has been at the @evomics.bsky.social workshop. I cannot believe these two weeks went by so fast. Thank you so much again to all the organisers, TA's and faculty for putting in so much time and effort into this wonderful workshop.

First field season of my PhD studying Swedish sand lizards (Lacerta agilis) 🦎 My work investigates epigenetic response in immune challenge experiments. Plenty more cool projects: hormones and coloration, microbiomes, egg incubation temperatures, telomeres

In the Conservation Biology Seminar Series yesterday, visiting PhD student María Dolores Barón Rodriguez (Lola) gave a really interesting seminar about the preen gland #microbiomes of hoopoes, wood-hoopoes and hornbills. 🐦 She had a big audience too (not visible)!
