Now I'm remembering how great the Citizen Sump story was, both on its own merits (Sump is turned into a tragic figure and the mystery all hangs) and as a Citizen Kane pastiche because it twists everything (Sump applauding his wife's rubbish stageshow GENUINELY because he loves her)

"If these teenagers don't unite, they're all going to die."

Ten years ago I co-wrote a relentlessly violent horror novel in which students get abducted for death-games by a sadistic necromancer. You know you want it!

Maybe in the future there'll be a single state formed by peaceful means but we don't live there yet.
cepmurphy.bsky.social
That too: the depressingly easiest way to get a single state is more and more conquest & subjugation. That isn't peace.
cepmurphy.bsky.social
If someone thinks accepting the second state legitimately exists as a state is unacceptable - and the current Israeli government and the main opposition are clear about that - then how would you have a single state where everyone lives together as equal citizens and take the same bus to work?
cepmurphy.bsky.social
Yeah, we call it a two-state solution because it's a recognition that there are, however much some people in the other state would wish otherwise, two states with specific wants and a population (and since the mid-2000s Gaza has been de facto a _third_ state).

Love that reveal of Edda

All right, just turned in the last strips of my second year on FLASH GORDON. That's 730 installments in the bag -- appearing in a rough average of 1.5 panels per strip, I've drawn Flash about 1,095 times. Still takes me a couple tries to get his hair right. Tomorrow we start on year three ⚡
Flash Gordon and Prince Thun take on a squad of green-skinned Shark Men And old man looks up at a mural of Flash Gordon crossing swords with Ming the Merciless. Flash Gordon frees Edda from her locked helmet, and the mechanic can't help herself from laying a smooch on him. Flash Gordon negotiates with Empress Aura. "Tch. Fine," she sneers, conciliating. "Savior of the Universe..."

He smiles back. "You love it."

Indeed. Annoying thing is darker edges has coexisted in children's books & live action fiction in the West, it's just looking down on animation after a century of the medium

Midweek reminder that The Nine O'Clock Horses - a bite-size novelette where suburban fragility meets local urban legend via surveillance tech - is FREE ALL MONTH, in celebration of the Creepiest Season

And it's set in Leicester, too. If you like that sort of thing :) 🐴🦇📚

An important (global) public service announcement from Ed Miliband on the day that renewables have over taken coal as the largest source of electricity.

"Clean energy, it's happening and it's the future."
cepmurphy.bsky.social
That's all it - it has periods of quiet and of beauty, it's softly coloured, it's often rural, there's small kids...

All we have to do is ignore the plot and implications like "so their mum is dying", or "World War Two is happening in the background"

At the moment a lot of people get to use it for free, what happens if the big boys go "yeah you got to pay a subscription service now, we need profits"? Bet you see a sharp drop in casual usage once it costs.

It's here to stay as a technology in general, which is very different to "the very specific market will be like this forever and obviously every use of it ever will win out" and _that_ always smacks of people going "I'd sure like to use AI actors instead of human actors" (or whatever topic is)

ED-69, and us watching Showgirls & Robocop back to back, was the inspiration for the commission I gave @msperoni.bsky.social to make SHOWBOCOP, the Future of Dancing Enforcement.
A golden ED-209 with purple hat and a pole on it that a sexy Robocop like cyborg is dancing on. Gina Gershwin pulls the pin on a grenade as Clarice Boddicker. Elizabeth Berkeley as Nomi will be come SHOWBOCOP

I wanted to highlight the 1957 novel On the Beach by Nevil Shute because not everything on #AlternateHistoween needs to be about ghosts or monsters. Set after a nuclear war, deadly fallout has wiped out all life in the northern hemisphere and is slowly moving south. From the POV of various 1/
