When the billionaires don’t blink at interference with the Federal Reserve, it’s time for concern.

@deanbaker13.bsky.social says Trump’s criminal investigation of Jerome Powell is a retaliatory move that threatens Fed independence.

Far from a clean, in-and-out operation, the Trump administration's military intervention in Venezuela on January 3 was about as profound a violation of another country's national sovereignty as you can encounter, CEPR's international policy director Alex Main told @al-jazeera-english.bsky.social.

🧵 #JobsDay: The economy added just 50,000 jobs in December, with unemployment dipping to 4.4%. But the details reveal a labor market under strain, says @deanbaker13.bsky.social. https://cepr.net/publications/unemployment-edges-down-to-4-4-percent-economy-adds-50000-jobs-in-december/

Trump says the US has the biggest economy on the earth, but his failed attempts to use tariffs against China and Brazil highlight the limits of our economic leverage.

At $31.8 trillion GDP, the US is only the third-largest economy in the world.

It’s been over a decade since China’s economy surpassed the United States, and Trump still thinks the US has the biggest economy on earth. His threats against other countries are rooted in economic leverage that no longer exists.

It seems that Trump hasn’t learned from his predecessors that overthrowing a foreign government—it generally doesn’t turn out well for the US.

For-profit hospitals have problems, but #privateequity is uniquely dangerous: they extract profits fast, then bail when things collapse.

Medicare Advantage looks cheaper upfront, but those "savings" come with denied care and massive insurer profits.

Republicans claim undocumented immigrants get ACA benefits—they don't. But the GOP's One Big Bill for Billionaires made it harder for actual citizens and legal immigrants to afford healthcare.

🧵: RFK Jr. promised to end Big Pharma's capture of the FDA. Instead, his FDA is doubling down on the same corruption: faster drug approvals with less safety evidence, more reliance on industry funding, and zero transparency. @BrandonNovick breaks it down: https://bit.ly/3Li9lUt

The reality is that healthcare cost growth slowed after the ACA passed, so claims that Obamacare made things "unaffordable" have it completely backwards. We can afford extending the subsidies, but we can't afford to let them expire.

Wind power is one of the cheapest sources of electricity, but Trump’s move to cancel five offshore wind projects will raise costs for 2.5M homes and put 10K construction jobs at risk.

Republicans want to kill ACA subsidies and return to the "free market"—where insurers only wanted healthy people.
