Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

Republicans don't want people to get paid during a government shutdown they own. Seems bad.

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

Oct 6th 1988 - Students discovered that school was closed due to flooding. Flooding which Donnie Darko caused, while under the influence of Frank.

📽️📅 Donnie Darko (2001)
3 Screenshots from the movie "Donnie Darko" (2001): First, a dimly lit scene shows a young man with an intense expression, holding an axe over his shoulder, with a mysterious, blurred figure in the background. Second, a black screen with white text reads "October 6 1988 (twenty-four days remain)." Third, a group of school children walks outside, with one smiling, as subtitles read "The school is closed today because it's flooded," and a Halloween-themed sign is visible in the background.

On Saturday, the home of a judge who ruled against Trump, went up in flames

SCOOP — Pennsylvania prosecutors were alerted to possible voting irregularities by one of MAGA's leading voices against voter fraud. A long paper trail shows Jack Posobiec has been living in Maryland but voting using his parents' PA address for years.

Yesterday Trump and Vought announced they'll cancel infrastructure projects in states with Dem Senators. This is deeply corrupt.

Trump and Vought will raise electricity prices for millions of Americans and kill jobs including in districts represented by Republicans.

Damage from Trump's $8B energy hit list would spill into GOP districts
The department targeted 16 blue states when canceling financial awards for 223 energy projects. But both parties will feel the impact.

Before the 2024 election, immigration was Trump's strongest issue so it was good campaign strategy to tie everything to it no matter how tenuous the relationship. Now people hate what Trump's actually done, so the connection will not magically turn people around to support Republicans

SCOOP — The White House instructed all federal agency leadership on Tuesday to send out a mandatory message to workers blaming the impending potential government shutdown on House Democrats, The Handbasket was first to learn. Absolutely no modifications to the email were permitted.

My story:
Trump mandates all federal agencies send email blaming Dems for potential gov’t shutdown
Workers call the partisan email "a vile slap in the face."

This is, quite simply, a lie. Government shutdowns have never triggered layoffs before because government shutdowns have nothing to do with layoffs.

Solar and wind power have finally become important sources of energy in recent years. But the reason they have grown rapidly while coal has declined isn’t that the chardonnay set considers coal unfashionable. It’s the simple fact that coal is no longer cost-competitive, while wind and solar are.
