I picked this up for fellow HIV advocate Dr Kate Leyritana. We are pushing for PrEP among those with risky behaviors - hopefully these will prevent HIV infections in the future. #healthXPH

This also is another beautiful poster from facebook.com/DOHgovPH to celebrate PRIDE month. LGBTQIA may be different but they still deserve dignity and respect as PERSONS. It is the risky sexual behaviors that can transmit HIV infection.

So hate the disease, but not the diseased. #healthXPH

I like this post from facebook.com/DOHgovPH because it shows that HIV does not discriminate, so neither should we! #healthXPH

also, one cannot tell if a person has HIV just by looking at one's appearance. You need to #GetTested to #KnowYourStatus.

I'm not sure if the principle of U=U is well known, but it points to treatment for prevention. If with ARV adherence, your viral load is too low for the machine to detect, then the chance for you to transmit HIV to another person is also very very low. #healthXPH so we keep those PLHIV on treatment

T3. Awareness, a platform for education but i guess that should be strategize, not just random. Its also best for communicating two way to the masses. #healthxph
Time flies, and we're down to T3. #healthXPH

T3. How do we use social media for a comprehensive and multi-pronged approach to ending the HIV epidemic?

I agree with the whole-of-government approach. There should be local AIDS councils in every city, made up of local DOH, DSWD, DILG, NGOs, hospitals, schools, communities - so that the approach to dealing with HIV/AIDS is multi-faceted and multi-sectoral. #healthXPH
T2. I can understand why our SOH wanted our HIV infection be declared an emergency. Its the only way now, under our current politics, that we ensure coordinated focus and efforts coping with the rising numbers for all branches of our govt. #healthxp
let's move on to T2. #HealthXPH

What would you recommend as government response to address this crisis of HIV surge?

Studies suggest that Grindr users are more open to HIV prevention measures, including PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), and may be a useful channel for outreach and testing. #healthXPH

We've always said that social media is a two-edged sword. Mobile apps for hook ups can be the solution!

T3: Definitely a comprehensive plan on mass education/awareness. We wouldn't know who can see our public posts on HIV awareness & somehow changed that one's perspective who has the capacity to disseminate the right information to others, convince them, & inflict change as well #HealthXPH

HIV campaigns should address all points of the HIV care continuum, from prevention, testing, link to care, treatment and viral suppression. #healthXPH there's no shortcut. We have to take care of these special patients in order to curb transmission.

U=U undetectable (viral load) untransmissible

it is good that our secretary of health is spotlighting the issue, we need to be consistent in making HIV care universal:

1. normalize HIV testing
2. talk about sex at home and at school
3. provide access to prevention
4. values-oriented youth programs
5. strong platforms for stigma reduction

in 2015 when I first started providing free HIV counseling and testing nobody wanted to avail... now, we have long lines during our missions. Kids have started asking questions. We now have to educate our educators so that they can respond appropriately. #healthXPH Comprehensive sexual education.
With Intensified testing i think we should be expecting a rise in cases. So the next thing to do is how to deal with it. Mass education, one that should sync with our culture and practices . Maybe tale a hint is some health programs that succeeded or failed . #healthxph
Let's get started with T1.

After 41 years of HIV in the Philippines, our HIV case findings is still increasing - the only one in the world. Why?

T1.  What do you think are the causes and contributing factors to escalating the HIV epidemic in the Philippines? #HealthXPH

T1. Although it is 2025 already, I still see that some people are hesitant to talk about their sexual histories and most often leave things to chance. Despite the fact that casual sex is very accessible these days, conversations about sexual health and safety are still left to chance. #healthxph

#HealthXPH If we had storm surge during Yolanda and COVID19 surge during the pandemic, we are now seeing the HIV surge:
1. risky sexual behaviors and lack of comprehensive education
2. stigma and barriers to testing and treatment
3. shifting demographics of the epidemic
4. increased testing

The goal is to END AIDS by 2030, but if left untreated estimate is that the Philippines will have 400,000 PLHIVs by 2030, and knowing how expensive ARVs are - the economic losses to support these PLHIVs will bankrupt our health financing. #HealthXPH

TB and HIV are twin epidemics, just like gonorrhea and chlamydia infections always go together. Let's hope we can end these epidemics in the Philippines (during our lifetime). #healthXPH I'm always watching out for our statistics. At least a lot of patients have returned to care.

T1: By stat, they stated unprotected sexual contact + sharing of needles when doing drugs - but if i may share my thoughts, the root cause is lack of education & awareness on safe practices to prevent HIV transmission #HealthXPH

This #HealthXPH tweetchat is very timely.

First, June is PRIDE month and we want to promote LGBTQIA acceptance, not just tolerance.

Second, Sec Ted Herbosa's call to action due to the alarming 564% increase in HIV case findings mainly among MSMs. We focus on the behavior, not the person.

Sec Ted Herbosa mentioned the goals of the UNAIDS HIV program to make sure that 95% of those at risk know their status (testing), 95% of PLHIV are on ART (treatment) and 95% of those on ART are virally suppressed (prevention). #HealthXPH
