We need to fight these “child online safety” mass surveillance laws with everything we have and fight to protect section 230 which protects ALL of our speech online. Go to badinternetbills.com for more info!!

It’s crucial to recognize this is not hypocrisy. People in power don’t actually want to regulate the business models of these big tech companies, they want to use liberals/leftists rightful anger at big tech to pass sweeping surveillance/censorship laws while letting these companies profit

Ergo, trance is a fish.

[Omitting quite a lot for brevity and so I can maybe revisit this later in more depth, but I wanted to get the thoughts down somewhere.]

Anyway, now introducing a new and innovative induction style, the Trout Slap™

...carry on.

So if trance can exist without hypnosis, can hypnosis exist without trance?

I'd argue yes, but now we're in very nebulous territory and losing focus (lol)

In short, it makes sense in most framings to allow trance to be both state, for simpler differentiation, and non-state, for accurate expansion.

Which is to say nothing about trances that aren't (natively) hypnotic, but are still trance - think flow state for creatives, hyperfocus, meditation, particularly intense exercise of imagination.

Are those less "trance" because they weren't hypnotically induced? Of course not.

Trance shares this problem.
It's useful, both linguistically and conceptually, to discuss it as a discrete state...but an enormous amount of hypnotic suggestion operates outside of said state - both before, in the setting of expectation, and after, in the exploitation of post-altered state.

That is, there is no category of creatures that can be created to include everything we understand to be fish without either a) excluding things we know to be fish or b) including things we know are *not* fish.

There is a similar problem with trees, but "trance is a tree" isn't as fun a statement.

Bear with me.
We, as hypnokinksters, will do as bears do, and try to catch this particular fish together.

Some of you may know where this is going.
"Fish" is a word with a relatively intuitive meaning to most people - linguistically very useful.
But biologically? There is no such thing as a fish.
