I think Michael Hobbe's hate of The Atlantic often overwhelms his ability to read things clearly.

If you check whatever he's reacting to, sometimes to often, it will take the position he's arguing for, but with additional nuance. The problem is.... you also have to read it.

I really wish people understood Zohran Mamdani's main power is going to be appointing committees.

I believe his intentions are good, his goals are awesome, his committees will be great.

But if you think he was just handed a wand to remodel The West you're in for a brutal surprise.

I just want to vent into the void.

I am deeply irritated with my family. From the faked murder of my sister, to the faked FBI scandals, to the blaming me for everything, I think I'm owed some apologies. I know I'll never get them. I know I even have to give up some boundaries to resolve crisises.

I sometimes just throw out stuff to enjoy the arguments. I’ll be like “Arthur from the Tick was the last good liberal”, I don’t know what that means, it’s just a series of words I found pleasing

Man, I didn't mind youtube ads when they were at the bottom of the screen. Even the ad reads that creators do one - four times a video. I was fine with an ad break every 15-30 minutes.

But google in out of control with the ad 5 minute ad breaks every three minutes of video.

I always find this kind of opinion bizarre.

I am confident everyone I know has spoken up. Many of the people I know have plans to effectively do something. And there was literally a protest in Philly that drew nearly a million people.

Are we all supposed to protest 24/7 or its fake?
I guess I'm still wondering why everyone in the majority that didn't vote for this & in the even bigger majority that opposes what's going on now who can speak out loudly isn't speaking out loudly. Because if they would, a lot would change.

One of the things I've been endlessly fascinated by is how people mistake photographs for reality. People think they cannot lie! There was no photoshop before 1995!!

Photoshop (program) is inspired by the process of developing photos & all the ways you can manipulate film! You know, in a photo shop

omg i hate Ezra Klein so much.

When Andrew Marantz is talking about the neoliberal government failing and that it could lead to a "time of monsters" stupid EZ is like "Or it could be abundance! I have a book out about how it could be abundance!"

Consensus is that I am the idiot.

I think I have some fundamental misunderstanding in what "understanding" means and what people are supposed to be doing in college?

I thought we were using our brains & refining our skills? What am I missing?
I guess I'm the idiot for thinking that English Majors would be able to parse and contextualize a work they hadn't read by an author they have studied?

Like, if you show me a Vermeer or Delacroix I hadn't seen before I could contextualize it. I could talk about technique & subject.

a gargantuan economic development that healthier societies would be well positioned to exploit politically. but we have xenophobia and hyper policing as our de facto climate policy instead of managed fossil fuel phase out. this is not an accident
Solar energy has consistently been underestimated.

Today, it adds more capacity/yr to global grid than any other source in history.

If trend continues, solar will deliver more electricity generation/yr than any technology before it.

Sometimes I'm watching youtube "explainer" video essays.... and I'm just like .... embarrassed by insights like "Maybe just stop drilling for oil".

Yes, unassailable. We could stop drilling for oil, but do you remember what happened in 2020 when we only *slowed* down the economy??

I feel a little weird about the shingy interview, partially because he won't be specific about anything, but also because, like.... you can pay a person to shoot landscapes or do your audio. I know audio engineers looking for work. The bonus of their expertise is they will know what you don't!

Rubio and Hegseth have installed this twenty-something DOGE affiliate, Nate Cavanaugh, as acting president of the U.S. Institute of Peace, per filing.

Before DOGE took control of USIP, the duly appointed president was George Moose, a career diplomat who first joined the foreign service in 1967.

I was talking with a friend today and she felt like no progress has been made in her lifetime.

I'd never say racism is solved, but the changes over my life time have been huge. People have gone from being disgusted that my family is mixed race to interested.

I can't tell if it's naive, but I keep reading things from people who survived fascism and it seems a lot of them say you've got to find people worth protecting to survive as a person & civilization.

It feels true, but I think I'm just a soft hearted fool.

Since this isn't my professional account I can speak my mind with out people being like "Is this about me??"

Anyway, I'm always dubious of guys that talk shit about their ex wives/ex girlfriends. Like... you married them. Add on to that they often call women hysterical....

There is something fundamentally broken on the internet when someone dresses fancy, reads 3 websites, then does a video essay and the comments are "Wow! The amount of research you did was astounding!"

Yo, it's wikipedia, atlas obscura & art today.

You're just fooled by lighting!

I hope this genre of man is dying out with my generation.
