The fun part of the snow is over! Nashville’s freezing rain has already taken out quite a few trees in my apartment complex, and I keep hearing the trees snap and fall in the woods nearby. My car was missed by only a few feet from
a falling tree.

We’ve done are best with the nice part of the storm, now we have freezing rain to contend with. Here’s a picture of Teddy completely unconcerned about any of it.

Middle Tennessee is either on the verge of a light snow or a snow apocalypse and you should get right with Jesus- each hour is a different version of the story.

With all these recent #TasTepeler news and finds this barely three weeks old interview with Necmi Karul almost seems a bit outdated - but still offers some really fascinating insight into this ongoing large-scale #Neolithic research project in Türkiye:

While watching scenes from The Hobbit post-reading with my 8th graders, they had the following insights to share:
“Bilbo’s an Unc”
“How old is Gandalf anyway?”
“The dwarf is like a cave man”
“Do we know how tall Gandalf is?”
“Why don’t they meet the dragon in this movie?”
All good observations.

Got the amazing experience of being visited by two humpback whale siblings and then also a third unknown whale today in the bay outside of Boston. Thanks to the Aquarium staff and crew for a fantastic trip! (They were also blown away by the appearance & playfulness of the whales) 🐋 #marine #whales

Archaeologists have a responsibility to the communities they work with, and serious questions need to be asked about whether replacing research, writing, analysis and cultural heritage deliverables with AI-generated content fulfils that responsibility.

Got to speak on the Middle Bronze Age at Tel Gezer yesterday, and that included the 10 standing stones on the “high place”.
Unfortunately, the last few times I’ve visited, one of the larger stones had been knocked over by local teens with no conservation work done as of yet to repair the damage. 🏺

Apparently few Egyptologists were willing to speak on the record about this upcoming sale of an artefact from Howard Carter’s collection (which he almost certain removed from Tutankhamun’s tomb, illegally).

Maintaining a century of silence.

Time to do better.

We know Howard Carter stole artifacts from Tut’s tomb. We’re sure this piece came the tomb. We don’t have the smoking gun of evidence of the theft of this exact piece. Does that mean we get to keep it? www.nytimes.com/2025/07/25/a...
