I don’t understand how much it plays a part in the final result though, bc there’s a palette reduction post process at the end. I guess it enhances the effect!

The checker pattern is blended as « overlay ». It works so well

Another trick I liked is to slap a checker pattern on a lowrez photo.
Gives a fake feeling of palette reduction!

On this subject, I think this style is sexy because it aims for the vibe. It’s a nostalgic filter.

No historic accuracy here. The post process stack is huge: color grading, sharpening, palette reduction, AO, tonemap, and maybe others
