Trying to discern what’s better between Solo or Rise of Skywalker or Return of the Jedi or Attack of the Clones is picking different shapes of kernels out of shit

Debates about Star Wars rankings go to very weird contrarian places very fast because you’re talking about a series that has maybe two good movies in total. The prequels are very bad, and most of the others are not that much better

Sad to see the literacy crisis hit Matt Stoller so hard

They are good soldiers and not nearly as annoying as the two senators in NV, an objectively bluer state

I feel pretty confident that by the end of this era we’re going to look back on the Trump years as being the last gasp for the AZ GOP, specifically. Despite the state voting for him twice

“America should be more like Europe” is a debate I get tired of quickly because it requires like 100 disclaimers, and this is pretty clearly one of them. A lot of how America is designed is dumb, but some of those fail safes don’t seem so dumb now

If Democrats win a trifecta in Arizona next year (which is entirely possible), they might as well add two more seats to the AZ Supreme Court, for a total of nine. They can then restore a liberal majority (after replacing one Republican justice who must retire in 2027 anyway due to age limits).

First Democratic president to leave office with negative approvals in almost 50 years. Like I don’t think that was totally justified by the public, but the public kept saying very loudly for 3+ years they did not like him and at some point you have to acquiesce to reality

The subject was revisited by Norman Rockwell in 1954, with a starker contrast between the generations, fewer heartstrings, and much more optimism.

Rockwell's painting was also hugely popular. Like Hovenden's take, it was widely reproduced, and got the movie treatment too.

We’re all smart and imaginative enough to think of scenarios where this could be a Kuwait like win for them, or ways they could gin up more support. But to really commit to that would also require us to ignore the material facts we know about every single person in charge of making these decisions

People have been saying “liberals/leftists have to be careful, [x] policy could be a win“ for 11 months and nearly everything has curdled into a pile of shit and majority disapproval within 72 hours of happening
