Ben, I've voted Green in every local and national election for a decade and last year I paid a membership. I want Green policies with the climate and ecological emergency at the centre of everything. Any loony left alliances / dalliances will end my support in an instant. I'm certainly not alone.

Ironic that "The history guy" gets it and expresses it so strongly today. Those pesky humanities people showing an annoying breadth of perspective again. Why doesn't he put on a lab coat and pipe down?

We have built a society in which people of different skin tones, religious backgrounds & cultures get along, share power, work alongside each other, procreate with each other, recognise the each other’s humanity and democratic rights. It is a STUNNING ACHIEVEMENT OF WORLD HISTORIC PROPORTIONS.

I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them

Yes what we need is more "humanities inclined" students getting a D in Maths A level, as you did, Kemi. I'm wondering if she will tar Law and PPE degrees with the same brush? Or is she just trolling Jenrick's History BA?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Those two great and experienced statesmen, schooled and versed in conflict diplomacy. WTF has become of the USA? And how can anyone take their mediation seriously?

Huge respect to Lord Heseltine, stoically turning up, at 92, in that racist sandpit of halfwitted baby freaks, to teach them some history, remind them what an electable Tory party looked like and tolerate inanities that must be insufferable for a political titan of his standing.

Tonight, the Harvest Moon rises: the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. 🌕

October’s full moon is also named the Hunter’s Moon, once marking a time to gather food for winter.

It will be the first of three supermoons this year, glowing bigger & brighter.

Moonrise: 19:44*
A close-up of a glowing full Moon, filling the frame against the black night sky. Its surface is marked with craters and rugged textures. This is a supermoon, appearing larger and brighter than usual.

It really is time for Robert Jenrick to get in the bin and stay there. Or maybe a desert island with a Golliwog as his luxury item.

I say this with the bluntness it requires: they will get people murdered if this continues. This is not just populism anymore either: it’s completely unhinged and a deliberate choice that does endanger lives. I am not saying this lightly at all.

In a bold move, Robert Jenrick is set to unveil a controversial plan targeting what he calls 'activist' judges, at the Conservative Party conference.

💥🔎🇷🇺 Our analysis reveals the scale of Russia’s massive propaganda offensive in Moldova: in 3 weeks, 9,900 TikTok videos were published and generated over 93 million views, created with artificial intelligence. Yet despite Moscow’s efforts, the pro-European PAS secured 50.2% in the Sept 28 election.

Over a decade of voting Green. I don't see it as wasted, just allowing my fellow humans time to catch up to reality. Binary politics à la MSM and BBC coverage just chains us to short termism. It hasn't been the time for that for decades, less so now.

BBC accused of 'extraordinary' anti-Green bias after party say the Laura Kuenssberg Show scrapped a promised interview with @zackpolanski.bsky.social on Sunday.

Green sources say the show also refused to interview Polanski after he was elected as leader last month

My first 1/2 was in 1985, and that's the most cynical decision I've ever experienced from an organiser, especially in the week of that Cheltenham festival. It even beats the NYRR decision on their marathon 2012 which I was entered in. I cannot imagine how residents of the town must have felt.

What's this? A conservative who understands civil liberties and human rights law? I live in (misplaced) hope that one day sensible voters on the right will wake up. You can't out Farage Reform, especially if you are a Tory.

The Bath Half is right up there at the top of my blacklist. I was due to run in 2020 and despite the cancellation of most sport that weekend, they went ahead. No refund or deferral offered to the 50% of socially responsible runners who decided not to go. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-engl...

tireless advocacy for the environment...

Jane Goodall was a one-of-a-kind treasure to the world!

I was lucky enough to be able to thank her personally when our paths crossed not long ago.

Thanks again, Ms. Goodall. You will be missed. ♥️

I visited Herculaneum yesterday. (in the middle of the modern town Ercolano, south of Naples) It's an astonishing place, bearing witness to the ability of earth's forces to totally upend human civilisation in an instant.
A panorama over the excavated Roman town of Herculaneum, buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD under 16-20 metres of volcanic mud. The volcano in the background. Another view down over Herculaneum showing the recently excavated beach area and the "beach huts". The beach huts - small cave like rooms facing the sea. This viewed from beach level. Visitors crowded around. Inside one of the huts, where hundreds of human remains were founded and much jewellery and precious objects. It's thought these people were awaiting a rescue by sea that never came, after having grabbed what valuables they could carry. They were engulfed by the boiling 400c mud which remoulded the coastline. The skeletons on the floor are plaster cast models.
