@anjahuja.bsky.social captures precisely the dangers lurking in the @royalsociety.org’s mishandling of Musk’s reckless disregard for scientific values. “The Royal Society risks looking like a bystander as reason and rationality come under sustained global assault from populism.”

UPDATE: I saw it happen! At the Birds Canada research station at the tip of Long Point I watched an expert ever-so-gently and carefully put one of these tiny tags on a monarch. Let me walk you through the steps (1/4)

So cool to visit the Motus workshop at Birds Canada headquarters. The Motus community is studying the movement of birds, bats and insects. This tiny radio telemetry device will fit on a Monarch butterfly 😲 #invertebrates #birds 🌿 www.birdscanada.org/bird-science...
Brown wood-sided building with a wi Dow and a door. Sign above the door says, “Motus Workshop and Research Laboratory”. Tiny antenna with a rectangular box on the end. The whole thing is on an open hand and is about 5cm long. Orange and black butterfly on purple flowers.

We must be patriotically proud to be British but not to learn about or contribute to any of the culture that pride might be based on

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Yes but is that a red-wall or metropolitan-elite industry…?

Imperial staff have had enough.

A 2% below-inflation offer from one of the wealthiest universities in the UK is an insult to every worker who keeps it running.

Today we strike for fair pay, decent conditions, and respect ✊🔥

As for this - in other words the government would rather we offshore our operations instead of generating jobs and exports in a high productivity sector in the UK. I despair...

this is literally stuff King Charles did, like not only did the American colonists have a revolution to not have this happen, but they did so in the wake of the English revolution, which was about not having stuff like this happen

“Because that’s what they are”

The UAE is an authoritarian autocracy, a petro-state with no income tax for citizens, to bribe them for the lack of democratic voice or free speech

It is 85% migrant, a segregated society with a ban on integration in principle and practice, few rights, equal opportunities, nor voice for incomers

This story is absolutely bonkers.

“There is a “crazy hole in our food safety system” that prevents the FDA from entering Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) to sample for pathogens that have caused an outbreak in people”.

Well gang, it's happened: OpenAI has built a platform filled exclusively with fake, AI content.

I've been playing with it for a few days, and I think it's safe to say we're basically kissing reality goodbye.

Am wondering if all of those suddenly deciding they’re against communities living “parallel lives” might reconsider their support of religious schools? Or indeed private ones?
