The relationship between UPFs and the environment is miles more complicated than this. UPFs are a hugely diverse category, but this article pretends they are all like M&Ms. What about plant-based meat and dairy alternatives?
The hidden cost of ultra-processed foods on the environment: ‘The whole industry should pay’
Industrially made foods involve several ingredients and processes to put together, making it difficult to examine their true cost

Climate and food scientists: Hey everyone, here's a massive report showing how we need to make radical changes to our diet to avoid environmental catastrophe, but if we did it we could have amazing health benefits!

We are just rewriting our surgery timetable, cancelling GP F2F appts so we can process all the requests that come in online - because our contract now demands we keep online access open all of core hours.
This is silly and inefficient and means we will offer a worse service to pts who needs us most.

‘Don’t pay any attention to what Trump says about medicine’, Wes Streeting tells Britons – UK politics live
‘Don’t pay any attention to what Trump says about medicine’, Wes Streeting tells Britons – UK politics live
Medical experts concerned alarms after US president warned pregnant women to avoid taking Tylenol in move contradicted by research Wes Streeting, the health secretary, has urged pregnant women to ignore Donald Trump’s claims about a link between taking paracetamol and autism. Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, Streeting said: I trust doctors over President Trump, frankly, on this. I’ve just got to be really clear about this: there is no evidence to link the use of paracetamol by pregnant women to autism in their children. None. In fact, a major study was done back in 2024 in Sweden, involving 2.4 million children, and it did not uphold those claims. Between January and April 2020, Labour held a leadership contest. Evidence from that period suggests that the prime minister accepted potentially thousands of pounds’ worth of advice and polling via the members’ association Labour Together. A review of his register of members’ interests for that time reveals no record of these donations. The parliamentary rules are clear that “support in kind” from Labour Together should have been declared, but it was not. In 2021, the Electoral Commission fined Labour Together for failing to report donations covering the period 2017 to 2020. New evidence has since come to light which raises questions as to whether this failure was deliberate, in an attempt to mislead the Electoral Commission. At the time, the prime minister’s now Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney, was a director at Labour Together and responsible for legal compliance. Neither Keir, nor his leadership campaign accepted monetary or in kind donations from Labour Together during the leadership election. Continue reading...

Great idea Jenny. We normally press apples with our neighbours this time of year (and borrow their press), I’ll ask if we can also do a bag or so of pears too 👍 I think cider might be a more popular Christmas gift than chutney 🤣

More pears (and apples) than I know what to do with... I’m afraid everyone will be getting chutney for Christmas. 😬🍐

Our last residential week on the Oxford International Primary Care Leadership programme. Cohort 15 has been an absolute joy. I’ve learnt so much over the last 3 years from the teaching & my cohort. I can’t believe we’ve come to the end of the programme already & will be joining next time as alumni.

The evenings are getting a little darker, but it's still warm! Wildlife that will hibernate in colder weather is still out and about, and more at risk on our roads. If you are driving on these darker evenings, please be vigilant and protect your local wildlife 🦔🦡🐸

Don’t go chasing waterfalls – unless you’re a grey wagtail that is.

After restoration work, Pulham Falls at Sheffield Park and Garden, East Sussex are now flowing daily to help oxygenate the connected lakes. This supports a thriving aquatic ecosystem, and has birds flocking to feast at the falls.
