(5d) Finally, all the same stuff about phone protocols still apply. There's supposedly no backdoor on iPhone encryption, but they cost more. Androids can be imaged and backdoored/hacked. Never biometric login, they can't force you to remember a code. Yadda yadda.

(5c) If you can afford it, now is the time to buy a very cheap smartphone on an inexpensive data plan and only go out with that. That way you don't lose an expensive phone and all the photos of your kids when ICE dumps it. Or worse, give them lots of your personal data.

(5b) Cellphones are key to our work. Communication, photos and videos, etc. But they often have our whole lives on them. If you go out w/ your main phone, you should back up and remove as much of your personal data from the phone as possible. Disconnect every account but the ones you absolutely need

(5a) There's a diversity of opinions on this next bit among folks I talk to, but my position is that more active observers/protestors need to consider a different approach to their phones. I'veheard of ICE holding phones or "losing" them. There are two factors here: evidence and slowing people down

(4) If you are arrested, you simply must do the following:
- Identify yourself
- Prove or attest to your citizenship
- Invoke your 5th Amendment rights and demand your lawyer
- Literally do not say a single thing besides the above. Do not talk shit, do not mouth off. There's time for that yet.

(3) At the very least, if you do nothing else, YOU MUST have a dead man's switch. You must set specific check-in intervals with a trusted contact who is not in the streets. I have heard of people being held for longer periods than before. This is a fail safe to ensure you're not disappeared.

(2) Now even more than ever, we need to use the buddy system. Give them your name, trusted contacts' phone/Signal, and attorney's info, if possible. If one person is doing closer observation or intervention, the other needs to hang back. That way, if someone is arrested, you can get them help.

(1) Get set up with an attorney before you go out, if at all possible. ICE has started asking if people they arrest have an attorney and, if they say no, denying access to the lawyers doing ad hoc jail support. Get a name and phone number. Memorize both of possible, write their number on your arm
