For my Christmas present, Daughter is fixing the rotting boards in the chariot of the Prince of Ponies, so we can take him to the park.

Raise you a Daughter with many competencies, such as wood assessment, ability to scrounge lumber, and use her power tools.

We're doing Harvest Home next Wednesday, and I have done my bit:

Ginger-pear pie. Pears baked in a custard of eggs, sour cream, lemon juice, eggs, and ginger.

Lost the recipe so I wing it & end up with a bowl of extra filling, baked & delicious as is.

Backup Daughter has settled in and brought family's two dogs. Queen Butterbean here is an excellent dog. The other is... not. He's just a jerk, always has been. Registered, & returned to breeder by first family. A friend is going to adopt him and everybody is very, very happy. Happy trails, G-Dog.

Today OH & I toured KLCC, and got to put a lot of faces to names & voices. They are doing great work to fill the local news void, & collaborating with other providers. On air since 1967, a charter member of NPR. Good folks. @klccoregon.bsky.social

Patent drawings document this to be true. How are you wise, O Shep? And you with cats.

OH unearthed a pair of books Boy crafted in elementary school Spanish class.

I feel... unseen...

Meanwhile OH begins to understand how he might have developed shoulder problems.

Neighbor gave us this lovely set of folding table & two chairs. Gonna remove rust & repaint. Then decide to keep it or give it away. Gorgeous. I'm thinking Victorian, anyone better at dating metal furniture?

Take care of yourself, Micah. Speedy recovery to you. Have some pretty apples.

I started a good painting. It's coming along.

I took my acrylic paints outside to try to get the lovely sweep of tiny cyclamen in our yard. Not finished, but I'm happy with it so far.

Also Florida from 1513. And Louisiana et al was French from 1682.

Oregon was once bounded by Spain/Mexico/California to the south, France/Canada to the east, and Russia to the north.

Skipping lightly over ALL the Indigenous languages here forever.

Youth Goes Down To The Sea

...and comes back with 30 crabs and 20 rockfish filets.

Here is Thug Queen, deeply disapproving of house arrest. Meanwhile, one of the jaunty Banana Boys, who has never had outside privileges, brightens her day by his very existence.

Outside it's a pleasant misty fall day, and the little slope is covered with pink & lavender shooting stars. Original given to us by a friend who died shortly thereafter. So annual beauty among fading colors, and reminder of a lost friend. I should paint it but I might cry.

Anyway. Depressed.

Finishing up our time on the prairie. Got a LOT done: paintings, poems, fencing, road repair, exclosure removals in prep for big stream conservation project, getting steelhead back up here.

Behold, yet another badger! This one put on a show, scuttling about busily, stopping to peer at us.

The swallows fledged & left the nest. Then there was a huge thunderstorm and guess who came home?

I am extremely pleased to hear about the helmet. You have an excellent, if unusual, brain. Worth preserving. There are also nice vests to be worn by us people A Little Old To Be Falling.

I hope you do ground work to get him to move his hindquarters away from you easily.

Yesterday we drove 20 miles north and spent a lovely day gazing down the Imnaha valley and enjoying canyon vistas.

Neighbor left yesterday, pack of work party volunteers starts arriving today for the weekend. Good weather, night thunderstorms, days perfect.

Then we get a week alone here on the prairie. I've been doing good art & writing poetry. And fixing fence.

We went to the 44th Hells Canyon Mule Days, Always The First Weekend After Labor Day, and had a good time. Mule fans are a small but tough & fervent community. Lots of fun to watch. Plus, chocolate marionberry pie sold by the Grange.
