An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Felt this line a little too hard on the first listen: "The first thing you learn is how far you can go with no gas in the tank."

Still, thank goodness for the Mountain Goats.

For all the media I actively consume, perhaps the most glaring and one people are surprised the most about is that I haven't seen Kill Bill (and of course, by extension, Kill Bill vol. 2).

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

I think the original Hades story resonated more (it is inherently a more personal and intimate story), but Hades II is just so goddamn full of joy and intention and discovery and I love it so much and it will tide me over as I continue to use roguelikes as my primary coping mechanism.
chimericnotion.bsky.social
I'm still obsessed that Hades II made all of two key gameplay changes (the ability to hold inputs and changing the cast to be actually useful) to change the entire flow, added 6 new weapons that feel completely different than the original set, and still have it *feel* good.

After about 200 hours since Early Access (175 hrs on the Steam Deck, ~25 hrs on the Switch 2), I haven't quite 100% Hades 2, but I have gotten the true ending and truer ending and maxed all my bonds. Anything else I do will be aspirational, but damn, this game was brilliant.

Remembering I have public facing social media just long enough to share my solo @puzzmo.com debut.

Fandoms! Language! And an (un?)surprising number of Gundam fans saying how they feel seen by 18D!

Since Slay the Spire 2 got delayed, I have been playing the original just to see if I still have the fundamentals and luck. And well, while I won't ever do it consistently, I did manage another A20 Heart victory on Defect so I have retained some things at least.

Long Story Short is such a wonderful case study in how the specific becomes universal, how absurdity anchors reality, and how everything is connected in all sorts of ways. The parts we see and the parts we don't.

Not a series I could binge. Absolutely a series I love.

There's a lot of lyrics in this song that have got me hypnotized as I listen on repeat, including:

"There's an amount to take / reasons to take more."
"Make sure you kiss your knuckles before you punch me in the face?"
"I wanna contribute to the chaos. I don't want to watch and then complain."

In August 1991 the creator of HTML and WWW, Tim Berners-Lee compiled the first index of websites called the WWW Virtual Library. The hyperlinks were organized into a tree of categories and subcategories depending on the individual fields of human interest.

One of the reasons I subscribe to so many YouTube channels is that every so often, an artist will return after nearly a decade with something I become immediately enamored with.

Case and point, Ryn Weaver's triumphant return.

After seeing Summer Wars in 4K, I return a quote that summarizes the essence of AMC's Halt and Catch Fire and also my idealized vision of tech in general.

"Computers aren't the thing. They're the thing that gets us to the thing."

Muttering "Everything's in service of the next thing", not really sure if I fully believe it today, but muttering it nevertheless.

Not to toot my horn, but I can still run tech and stage the hell out of a venue.

Doing the completely normal thing of returning to one of the tentpole panels of a manga about a Japanese highschool boys volleyball club to recalibrate and carry on.

Today, we mutter task focus. Today, we work.
A page from Haikyu 333.

Panel 1 - A coach says "It actually has a much more rational meaning to it.

Panel 2 - a player on a volleyball court looks at two banners. The top reads "Give each play your all." The bottom reads "the joy of living of the now."

Panel 3 - a close up of the player profile. Text reads "Task focus. The end result of a game. The referees' judgements. The actions of the opponent. These are things outside of any one player's control. What a player can control is there own thoughts and actions." *Referenced from Volleyball Mental Kyoks Method.
