That’s a shame since on the one hand evolution is the only proven method for creating general intelligence and AI neural networks are not currently biologically plausible, and on the other hand computer modeling could teach us so much more about the evolution of behavior than it already does.

Humans compute. Humans reason. The fact that (hardware) computers and their software aren’t currently biologically plausible has nothing to do with what they could be made to do in terms of modeling the mind. 2/2

I despair reading papers saying humans don’t compute the way (hardware) computers and their software do, therefore computation cannot model what we do. 1/2

I disagree. Humans are excellent at reasoning using logic to achieve their goals, much better than nonhuman primates, but only a small subset of logic has the goal of finding the truth which is a rare exercise in humanity.

Some of the most fascinating books I’ve read outside my direct specialty area are about perceptions of animals and emotions in antiquity

I once commented to @flintdibble.bsky.social that while animals aren’t that important to many classical archaeologists (Flint is an exception) animals were incredibly important to the classical peoples themselves

As was true with the translators I heard from in an earlier edition, copywriters never felt that they were being replaced because the AI's work was better. It was almost always worse. It was simply cheaper and faster, and deemed "good enough" by clients.
