My colleague Megan and I have published an article all about Disney theme park attraction board games! We'd appreciate it if you could share.

Taking a short trip to Toronto to do some archival research on a film from Expo 67, and my train into town was number 67. I will take this as a good sign.

An amazing day of conversation about play and games in theme parks 😍 Huge thanks to the MIT Game Lab, CMS/W, and @lentesta.bsky.social and Touring Plans for sponsoring the workshop! Also massive thanks to the amazing set of folks who came to share their impressive work on the subject!

This Friday I'll be at MIT for a workshop on theme park play, then on to Orlando for #IAAPAExpo and the Themed Experience and Attractions Academic Symposium where I'll have a poster. A really packed week for theme park studies—hopefully I can get to an actual park somewhere in there too!

For anyone interested in historical IMAX film, I'll be part of a panel at the Thinking Allowed Colloquium this coming Thursday, presenting some of my ongoing work reconstructing the Fuji Group Pavilion from the 1970 World's Fair. You can even watch on Zoom/YouTube! www.concordia.ca/cuevents/off...

No one prepared me for how many "short bios" I'd have to write in grad school.

The wildest part about watching videos of decades-old theme park stunt shows is suddenly being confronted by a Ricky Martin reference framed as a topical joke.

This does make me contemplate the fact that a major plot point of the first movie was Shrek wanting to be left alone. I hope they have a roaming Shrek performer who just asks everyone in a disgruntled manner what they're doing in his swamp.

I saw the announcement for the American Heartland theme park and given its slated Pacific Northwest land, I wonder if they'll have a Big Foot meet n' greet but the performer only shows up for five minutes at an unscheduled time each day.

Thinking about light mode/dark mode settings, but like, "funfetti icing" and "laser tag carpet"

Reading on a flight yesterday about the careful staging of perceived risk in parks when the plane hit some pretty severe turbulence. Nothing drives home the point of a thrill ride quite like your plane heaving suddenly.

As much as Bluesky definitely needs to rebuild some of the previous features Twitter had, the barebones framework is actually kind of refreshing. In absence of a trending tab, it's had me thinking if I even actually want it given how often it lacked relevance, either to me or within a given tag.

Between the cracked support beam for that rollercoaster at Carowinds, those riders stuck on that carnival ride in Wisconsin, and my migration to Bluesky from Twitter, it sure has already been a week to ponder the breakdown of tech systems.
