Found this defiant clump of snowdrops in our garden today!🌱 Despite the brutal cold of winter they have pushed their way through the damp earth to stand proud and show us there is hope - spring is on the way! 🙌 Hurray! ☺️

Got a lovely surprise from my new book when I opened it to find 2 Canterbury Gothic stained glass postcards! They show pilgrims on their way to visit Becket's shrine, from a window in the Trinity Chapel. Going to put them up in my workspace ❤️

Was so disappointed and angry to receive this email yesterday. 'Voluntary Severance Scheme'. I wonder just how 'voluntary' it is in reality. The email just gets worse as it goes on. Dreadful. Appalled by UKC once again. The staff deserve better. The students deserve better.

Very happy to find this on my door mat today from the BAA! An early Christmas present! 🎄🎁 Just look at that amazing contents page! Can't wait to settle in and read through with a cup of tea!

The full story of her martyrdom is depicted in this glorious Spanish C15th triptych by Fernando Gallego. In this image she holds a sword instead of the wheel, another symbol associated with the saint due to her beheading:

For today's feast of St. Catherine #otd, a lovely early C14th stained glass image of her from St. Mary's Church of Deerhurst. She holds a spiked wheel, a symbol of her martyrdom. However, it didn't kill her as intended, instead shattering at her touch, so she was beheaded instead #stainedglass

Sunrise over sea 🌅 Just about visible through our back garden trees. These fiery sunrises are the best thing about dark mornings.

A bit of bling for #TilesOnTuesday. The glorious apse mosaic at San Clemente in Rome (C12th). I like the detail of the twelve apostles represented as lambs, all trotting towards the Lamb of God in the centre 🐑

Today's lunch break involved kicking autumnal leaves in the park. Just a couple of months ago I wouldn't have been able to enjoy something so simple. As my recovery continues I'm beginning to find small pockets of joy in life again 🍂 #MentalHealthMatters

An oldie but a goodie for my Window of the Week on #StainedGlassSunday. Abbot Suger's wonderful inclusion of himself at the feet of Mary in the Annunciation scene from the C12th windows of Saint-Denis. Only his head & hands are original, much of the rest of the panel is C19th (except the text!)

On a break from work today I found this lovely scene. The park is transitioning from autumn to winter as the trees shed their gloriously coloured leaves which blanket the ground 🍂 Kind of makes you want to dive in and start throwing those leaves in the air...
