#1 GBA. Classic 2D sidescroller interspersed w/ “mode7” (or w/e GBA calls it) challenge stages. Honestly could be way worse. Does a good job adapting the story, with smart distillations to fit the whole thing into an hour or two while faithfully hitting all the key story beats. I give it two thumbs.

#2 GCN. Basically the same game as the PS2 version, but looks, runs, and feels slightly better. If you gotta play one of the 3D games or just really want to hear Tom Hanks’ brother’s voice on a PS2 or GameCube Christmas-themed game, this is easily the ideal one.

#3 PS2. Looks and runs kinda gross. They didn’t really have any good ideas for 3D gameplay, so it’s just a string of disparate janky mini-games that mostly do a bad job of adapting the story. Paced poorly and pretty nonsensical if you don’t know the story. Just kinda skips and misrepresents parts.

Friends, help me out here. After seeing a bunch of amazing 50 indie games lists, I realized I have huge gaps in my foundation of true indies despite claiming to be a champion of them. A benchmark for what I’m looking for would be anything that has *not* appeared in any of the main showcases.
