Here's a list I wrote a while ago.
There's probably more, but these were what came to my mind.

First of the text: The reasons are numerous. Of those, it may only be one, it may be many that do it for those with the influence and power to really shape public opinion and governmental policy. 1) Religious significance: Palestine contains the most important religious sites for the world's biggest religions. 2) Strategic significance: Palestine resides at/by the intersection of 3 major continents, along with a hugely important canal, so it can have outsized influence over global trade. 3) Israel has long been seen as a very reliable "unsinkable aircraft carrier" in the middle east, providing the ability to project air-power over the entire region, to ensure control of fossil and mineral wealth (AKA, controlling those pesky Arabs who won't submit to Western rule) 4) Evangelical Christians dominate AIPAC, which dominates American politics. In much of U.S, not being pro-Israel means you cannot win an election, because so much money and media is focused on smearing you. Evangelicals (and other Christians) believe in the Rapture, Judgement Day, when a huge war will be fought over a reunified Israel, which will see the second-coming of Jesus, the death of 2/3rds of Jews and the salvation of Christians. 5) It's always been an antisemitic project, somewhere to dump the Jews they want to kick out of their own country. Other countries wouldn't take them and most don't wish to / believe they can do what the Nazi's did. Second half of the list 6) Sunk-cost fallacy. Giving up on Israel would render all the money and lives spent until now wasted, so just keep doubling down. 7) When the dust finally settles, the history books will finally be written with ink, those who've committed war crimes for decades will want to ensure it's people on their side who're able to give testimony to investigators. 8) It's racism / Islamophobia, the same shit we've known for centuries with settler colonialism. Whites are superior, whites should rule (which really amped up post-9/11, as Muslims were blamed so America could go on a vengeful killing-spree and also grab a load of resource-rich land). 9) Some Jews and most Israelites are indoctrinated into Zionist beliefs (link to follow). I believe if "The West" pull support, they won't just make peace and accept the borders they have, they'll ally with Russia or China or someone, anyone ... providing them with the strategic land, the grandiose claim they control the holy land and more importantly, hand-over technical information and equipment of the latest and greatest western weaponry, the best cyber-security hacking tools/knowledge. The tail (Israel) knows it can, to an extent, wag the dog (U.S). 10) Finally and most importantly ... It's the norm, the status quo. Governments aren't creative, they don't care to rock the boat, they're administrators, keeping things ticking along, trying to avoid upsetting their masters.
