Fair. But in general (obviously IMHO) the playwright ought to answer questions and otherwise butt out. There will be bad productions! There will be choices you didn’t intend. And often those choices will be revelatory.

I’m glad Shakespeare doesn’t get to say Ariel can’t run across a lake.

It’s funny that you mention Beckett since he was famously intolerant of imaginative staging. A man who didn’t understand that theater is a collaborative art form.
